Any info on this song? Just heard it for the first time. Sounds like a Landy-era song, but any further details?

Opening line is 'A Shower a bath a drink we're walking on water'. It's actually pretty interesting melodically...

edit

Yeah, was apparently written in 1981 but recorded during the Landy era, or in the period right after. Those three songs that are credited as being from 1981 (this, Rings aka Reins, and Sweetie) sound more like circa-90, as Brian's voice is not raspy but high pitched & nasal.

edit x2

On a completely unrelated note, the Terrence Trent D'Arby version of 'Walkin the Line' sucks hard.

Observation... around 1990 or 1991 and through the end of the Paley sessions Brian started using his voice like he did in his glory days... his voice was just shot by then.

I honestly have no info to add, but I kinda like "Walkin' On Water". Seems like this, "Stevie", and "Sweetie" probably woulda been in the mix for a 1982 or so album if the guys woulda had their stuff together around then.

You are right on point there. For example, "Daddy's Little Girl". Wow. He's hitting the notes and whatever but it seems like he YELLED every vocal he did around this time. And then there's the falsetto at the end. And it's just not anywhere close to where it was.

The Paley sessions though, I thought his vocals were a bit better. For instance, "Gettin' In Over My Head" and "You're Still A Mystery" were both pretty nice vocals on Brian's part. Not as good as the best vocals on Imagination in my opinion, but decent. His vocals on Orange Crate Art on the other hand, whew!! Not good.

Yeah towards the very end of the Landy era/beginning of the Paley sessions he began singing differently, like he used to sing (only not as good obviously).

Those three songs may have been written in 1981 but no way in hell were those booted versions done then. His voice was too smooth.

Really? I kinda think '81 sounds about right for all of them. I mean, I think the versions I have are the only ones that are out there. So I dunno.

Obviously though, I haven't a clue when their from, so you might be totally right.

He sounds just like he did on the demo of Don't let her know she's an angel. His 1981 voice sounded like Stevie. Even when you consider that DLHKSAA demo is at the wrong speed (the corrected version can be found on You Tube under Brian Wilson Montage... I uploaded that some years ago) you can hear the difference. What is weird is in the 80s and through 1995 his voice sounded different on the demos than on the released versions.

Just loaded this into Audition to play around with it...sure enough I was right, in that it is at the speed. You can tell by the end with his speaking voice. By adjusting the speed, not only did I find the correct speed (matching his speaking voice to what he sounded like that that time period), but I also found it was the exact same setting to fix 'Don't Let Her Know She's an Angel'. I wonder if the original source tape is the same as that song.

For those who don't know what I'm referring to re: the latter song, this is the YT link.
