I've mentioned Whale Music a few times over the past year whenever there has been a conversation about a Brian biopic, saying that this is the best one there is. I was curious how many people have seen the film or read the book by Paul Quarrington, which uses part of the Brian Wilson saga in creating the character of Desmond Howl, a former rock musician turned hermit. It's a really great story.

As a sidenote, the soundtrack to the film is done by the Rheostatics (who had already named their third album after the book and therefore have both their third and fourth album titled Whale Music) who were one of my favourite bands that I considered to be Canada's Beach Boys. They don't sound so much like the Beach Boys (though they do have a knack for unique harmonies) but they essentially worked to capture Canada (and all it's multiple parts) in music - creating a sound so that one could say, "that sounds like Canada" just like one could say, "That sound like California" when listening to the Beach Boys.
