Check it out.

Sellout or not?

Does it even matter to be a sellout?

Jack White coming from where he did, it sure seems a sellout worthy moment.

Anyone that sells their music is a sellout, whether it's for a soft-drink corporation or a music corporation.

I think you totally misunderstand Jack White and the White Stripe's music if you think this makes him a sellout.

I was just kidding around in my post ---- I don't mind either way what he does with his music. This song is a great one though, and the commercial is pretty snazzy, too bad it's selling coke and not something useful to the world.

Oh, and Ironically, I was listening to XM today, and they had an interview with Loretta Lynn talking about the Van Lear Rose.  She said that when she agreed to do it, Jack took her to this old house to record it in.  And she thought "Oh man, what's gonna happen here?" then when she went inside, they went in a room and she said the control board was old.  So she thought "If I wanted to make a crappy sounding record, I could have stayed home!" since she has a small studio at her place.  Anyways, she said Jack brought in 4 guys that were local detroit musicians, all in their 20's, and again she thought "Man, I had more people than this on my record out in hollywood" which I guess was the last album she made.  So, she said Jack put some rock guitar on a song, 'he couldn't resist'... and then said that she thought it was going to sound like a train wreck.  Then Bill Anderson (the interviewer) asked her how her peers in Nashville liked the album and she said "I guess they were looking for a train wreck" because they all love it.  She said that Jack had the guys record the tracks, and then had Loretta sit down and sing the vocals one after another.  Bill said "I heard you did many of them in 1 take, and you said it was the easiest record you ever made" and Loretta said "I did ALL of them in 1 take!" and then said she messed up 1 word in one of the songs, and Jack didn't want to fix it, lol.  She made him let her fix that one word.  Anyways, Bill said "So how long did the record take to complete" and she said "All Day".  LOL  That's the way people ought to make music!  Jack White is a breath of fresh air, out of everyone in the music business, he's one of the few that are still making music for ALL the right reasons, in my opinion.

"Here's the deal, folks. You do a commercial - you're off the artistic roll call, forever. End of story. Okay? You're another whore at the captialist gang bang and if you do a commercial, there's a price on your head. Everything you say is suspect and every word that comes out of your mouth is now like a turd falling into my drink." - Bill Hicks

Just because he records quickly and efficiently doesn't mean that he's making music for the "Right reasons". I don't know if we could ever agree on those reasons, but it sure shouldn't be money-oriented. It seems to me that he's making simple music, easily, costing nothing out of his own to make, to make more money in return. Basically ripping us all off under his veil of making music for the, "Right Reasons".

The White hypes are ok but truly not genius by any definition of the word.  I will say that the girl who drums is a tasty brunette and I like her simplex drumming.

Live, they are insane. That's what made me pay attention. Before 'Get Behind Me Satan', I'd have taken most White Stripes shows over any of their records.

Don't get me wrong, they are still better than 98% of most recycled crapola in the biz.
