Chords to That's Why God Made The Radio
«

Has anybody tried to finde the chords to the new single? It ain't easy, like it often is with BB tunes. I think I'm still wrong about some chords.
verse: C-Am-Dm-E7-A-F#m-Dm-G-Am-D-Am-D-Dm-C-Bb-G.
refrain: C-Bb-D#-C#-F#-B-Bm-F#-B?-F#-B?-Dm7?-C-G.
Too exhausted now to figure out the bridge...
Corrections and additions welcome.
I must say, this tune was either written by someone trying to write like Brian Wilson, or it is Brian Wilson brianwilsonifying a previous chord sequence.

I think your verse is right (although Esus4 I think instead of E7) , but the chorus goes from C to Gm7, not Bflat.
Also in the chorus you play D SHARP - D SHARP 7, C SHARP - C SHARP mag7, this is as far as I've got...
(Don't know where the sharp and flat buttons are on my keyboard
)

Thanks!
Esus4 works too, but so does E7.
I think you're right about the chorus. So it's:
C-Gm7-D#-D#7-C#-C#maj7-F#-B-Bm-F#-B?-F#-B?-Dm7?-C-G.
Your sharp chords are displayed wrong because one is not allowed to have a p followed an m anymore...

I see! There are a few other nice suspended chords in there, I will sit down tonight and a have a go.
The key change in the verse definitely has a Warmth of the Sun vibe.
Nice work Bossaroo!

i'd really like to know what Peterik and Brian each contributed. I'm guessing Joe Thomas is responsible more for the lyrics...?
Peterik/Thomas also co-wrote "Dream Angel" on Imagination which hasn't been mentioned much.

I think it's pretty clear by this point then Brian had a major hand in how the chorus turned out. The verses I can believe were contributed by someone trying to sound like him. They didn't even try in the bridge.

i worked the chords out as best I could on saturday in order to make this cover version:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ZmozByQMEw
It struck me how complex the chords to this song are. Like all good Beach Boys songs, it changes key a gazillion times, including halfway through the first line! Over the weekend I must have listened to it a thousand times in order to make my fan video, and trust me, if you're not sure about the song, it's a grower. The lyrics are perhaps a little corny, but the chord structure is nothing short of genius.

Yeah i think it's safe to assume the verse/chorus/bridge came to brian and he "put it into the beach boys idiom" as mr. jardine would say

Is it a compliment or an insult when I say your falsetto is as good as Foskett's? I mean it as a compliment.
And how much autotune did you use?
No, honestly, this is great. I couldn't have done it a quarter as good. (Make that a twentieth for the singing.)

The song sounds like the authors were going for a simulation of Brian's style on songs like "The Girls on the Beach." I think what Brian contributed is the Four Freshman harmonic structures in the vocals, which gives the song more complex chord structures that it had when the other guys originally wrote it. It would just be a relatively pedestrian pop song by writers trying to semi-emulate Brian's songwriting style, but the harmony parts he devised are what give it interest and elevate the song to a higher level. So, even if Brian didn't write the song that was brought to him and the Beach Boys, he very much deserves the writing credit even if all he did was arrange the vocal harmonies.
