... damn but I miss the Ego board. This place can be a tad rough at times but Ego, man, that was cage fighting with lead pipes and wrenches. And chainsaws. You come out of a thread with two fingers and an ear missing, sh*t, t'weren't nothin'.  Won't see it's like again.  Mind, that's probably a good thing.

Strap on a Kevlar vest and burn off your fingerprints, 'cause you're about to enter the high-stakes world of the Beach Boys fandom.

I miss the Ego board too.  Loved watching AGD fend off the latest trolls with "Troll-B-Gone".  Posters hiding behind pseudonyms which allowed them to express their true heartfelt feelings about other posters without being recognized. Personal vendettas displayed openly for all to see.  And through all that, excellent discussions about the Beach Boys took place.

Yep, I miss it. There was a reason that board was called "Male Ego", you know.  Grin

I, I love the colorful clothes she wears, and she's already working on my brain. I only looked in her eyes, but I picked up something I just can't explain. I, I bet I know what she’s like, and I can feel how right she’d be for me. It’s weird how she comes in so strong, and I wonder what she’s picking up from me. I hope it’s good, good, good, good vibrations, yeah!!

Was that the board that had the "sandbox" area which you could only read if you were logged in?

And where is Junkstar these days?

When I first got into internet BB's boards, the White Board was always a good one to check out. If I remember it was at the Cabinessence site. There were some incredible rumbles on there. Very entertaining and maddening at the same time. That was the first time I'd heard the word 'Scrubdown', in which every post on the board was deleted and it started all over again.

I've missed out on a bunch, haven't I? I mean, I only found out about this board maybe 6 months ago.

The best part was that Bruce, of all people, was the main attraction to the Ego board, that is, if you weren't cool enough (read: limey) to be in with the fish 'n chips crowd on the Britain board. But I digress. Male Ego was THE place to be for mean-spirited yet good-natured rumbles. It was like the 4chan of the Beach Boys world.

I gotta disagree slightly with Andrew as far as Male Ego being cage fighting with lead pipes, wrenches, and chainsaws. It was worse than that. It was like The Running Man meets Team Fortress 2 on hardballs. If you didn't have an iron will and a skin thicker than the Lovester's bank account you were better off on the in-between period of the Shut Down board, when that was the board with all the technical issues and two posts a day.

RIP Male Ego.

I don't think anyone's heard from Junkstar for a few years; I think at one point he popped up on Shut Down for a day or two but he pretty much got out. I think that had something to do with someone telling Junk that someone "in the know" believed that some posts on Ego were slanderous. Around the time those rumors popped up, Ego was gone. Lesson to be learned - back in 2005 you couldn't question the Brian Wilson Promotional Marketing Machine and get away with it. Smiley

And I know exactly who that someone was. Unfortunately, I can't tell you here because it would be slanderous.  Lips Sealed

Quite honestly, you really didn't miss out on much.  A lot of energy and effort that could have been directed towards documenting and discussing one of the greatest American bands of all time, instead spent tearing people apart.    People's lives, their "real lives" that meant a lot more than message boards, were messed up.

Someone ought to track down some of the people who have disappeared off the internet because the message board madness, just to see how they are doing.

You guys just reminded me to dig out Junkstars Ego cd, that he gave all of us when Desper, Boyd & I did that convention for the Shut Down Board, back in Connecticut several years ago!
Oh, forgot to mention that I miss that board, too!  Not the weird stuff you guys are talking about, but the great music discussions had there, before I was exposed to here...

Ah, yes - remember that. Junk emailed me saying this guy claims to be Bruce, wants to register, should I just blow him off, and included the email addy. I replied, wouldn't do that were I you, it is Bruce. I could hear the sharp intake of breath from here. Mind, I've nothing to talk about - nearly deleted Brian's posts from the BBB board the one time he showed up.  Shocked

Remember Ego well. How a 'Melinda the Model' thread could go from what kind of model she had been, to 18 pages later being the war in Iraq or the like, we will never know! Also crazy Karl and his fake death.  LOL

I think the majority of people on that board believed that Karl died. I sure did. There was another guy - Michael something, who was funny as hell too.

Yeah, that was just utterly despicable, more so when he popped up and cried 'fooled ya !', then wondered why we collectively ripped him a new one. 'But guys, it was just a joke, ya know, ha ha ?' It actually had the effect of making some people doubt that Mike Lenz had really drowned some years later. Sadly, that was true.

Michael Lenz! That was the guy I was thinking of. He was both knowledgeable and funny.

The Ego Board... remember Mike's the Greatest fights with Mike haters. Karl's halloween prank, of course (which I did not believe). Not to mention Bobby California. His fights with AGD were memorable. Bruce's "basement" remark to Karl Rogers. I believe the board was back for a couple of days and then gone forever. But boy, did we have fun.
