It would be nice, if unlikely, to see a double CD released next year containing 50 rare and unreleased songs from the band's entire history. Ideally this wouldn't include alternate takes of the hits, but the genuine rarities that are out there.
Being greedy, I'd also like to have a similar double CD set featuring rare live songs that the band have played over the years.
Sister Golden Hair and Beachago tunes!

Beachago Tour of 1975 , Yes Please - That would be great , Bobby Lamb doing a solo 'Surfs Up' and especially with the Jumpin Jack Flash encore that rocked - Over to JWG for that im afraid !!!!
Serious though , the series of 50th Anniversary issues is potentially rather endless to say the least (best listen to our old tapes / boots guys and dolls)

So how did Chicago handle the backing of Surf's Up? I bet it sounded fantastic, like the trumpet part and such.

Surfs Up by Chicago was rather damn good , its on one of those cheap shitty series of BB's 'Surfin' Rarities' Boot CD's (Not That I Own It :-) and is rather low on hi-fi but still (like all boots) rather listenable

Talking of latter day 'Live Stuff' I would love a proper release (as Bruce has said on many occasion) the Paramount N.Y. 1983 Box Set Show (Possibly the Beat Ever Live BB's *oo&) and quite possibly a compilation of The BB's (Mike & Bruce) 2004 & 2008 UK Shows (As AGD points out) , they were the best I have heard a BB's Band EVER (honest) and the set list was simply beyond comprehension (just a shame Carl wasn't there)

You know to be 100% honest, I like the unmastered Cocaine Sessions, Heroes & Villains is moody as hell.
Give us WIBNTLA!

It would be nice to get the Nassau 1974 show. I forgot about that one. Dennis sings Help Me Rhonda, and it is probably one of the last recordings of his "young voice".

It may be the copy I have of them, but the "cocaine sessions" do not sound significantly worse than, say, the recordings reissued by Document of 1920s and `30s -- and those were taken from shellac! It's about on par with a well-played piece-a vinyl of a field recording, I reckon. Although it's probably because, beyond the Beach Boys, that is the sort of stuff I've become intensely interested in. Thus, I am more able to tolerate the sound quality of these booted sessions. In fact, this may be quite a good tolerance to have built up when it comes to bootlegs in general.

Just a correction: that Paramount concert was from 1993. There is an excellent soundboard boot of this floating around on the Interwebs. The accoustic set was grand; they performed quite a few chestnuts; Carl steals the show with "Caroline, No". There is even a good live version of "Take A Load Off Your Feet" (I song I have never cared for). Just needs a little mixing and mastering and this concert would make for a fine addition on the 50th Anniversary box set.

This is a little offtopic, but are you talking about the Document Records label?

Yeah,
the Austrian label
that releases American "roots music" -- blues, jazz, folk, and so on -- from, primarily (although not exclusively), the 1920s and `30s. I don't think they spend all that much time or money on remastering though, which is sometimes distressing...

I would love to see a lot of studio sessions from 'Today!' and 'Summer Days' (instrumental sessions as well as vocal sessions). I'd love some a cappella from those releases as well.
I'd also like to see an official release of Brian's '76 piano demos.
I'd like to hear 'Party!' without the party sounds.
Who doesn't want some more SMiLE material officially released?
Basically the Today!/Summer Days Sessions Boxed Set? (just like the Pet Sounds Sessions Set?)
Brian doesn't want it released.
seriously?
Why?

A shame that we got no new Beach Boys compilation or archival product from Capitol this year. I fully expect Brian's 2-album deal of cover versions for Disney to be his farewell recording projects. After that, I would expect him to be more agreeable to archival projects. It brings in money, after all. And Mike Love is soon going to need a big infusion of cash to pay the lawyer bills of all those individuals and companies that he harrassed with his frivolous lawsuits. What utter gall: Love makes a miniature industry(for lawyers) out of harrassing Brian Wilson with lawsuits, then he turns around and asks Brian to tour or record with him. Brian should tell him(in no uncertain terms) to f@#k off. But one thing is sure: Brian Wilson should never again put himself in the position of being under the thumb of Mike Love. A reunion of the surviving Beach Boys would do serious mental harm to Brian Wilson.

My line about Brian not wanting it released was towards the question:
Who doesn't want some more SMiLE material officially released?
I try to answer multiple questions at a time in a post, but what questions I bold will have a bold answer and what questions I italicize will be italicized.

I could see this as Brian's farewell, but I also could see him doing another album of originals to say farewell; TLOS, coulda been that album though...Southern California was such a good track to go out on.

Regarding the '75 Beachago stuff, word is that most, if not all, of the shows were professionally recorded. Unfortunately, many of the master reels were later destroyed in the fire at Caribou Ranch. I could swear I remember reading an interview with J.W. Guercio that there are some surviving reels that are missing many of the tracks. In other words, 2 machines were rolling with discreet tracks, so a reel with tracks 1-24 may be around, while it's corresponding reel with tracks 25-48 is gone. For this reason, he refuses to release any of the material. I think it would be interesting to hear what survived - the die hard fan could even create his / her own re-mixes. A guy can dream, right?

I think I did read that information about some of the tracks being missing, but I can't remember where. However, a couple of years ago Guercio said that no tapes were destroyed in the fire at Caribou. The fire was in the control room of the studio, not the tape storage area.

sounds like you have to take everything Guercio says with a grain of salt....
the tapes for those shows are likely there... but until hes ready to let them go... they
will remain missing

I like Brian's demo of "Awake" a lot more than the finished American Spring version. I also find a lot of demos of BBs songs to have been different enough to warrant listening beyond merely historical curiosity. Thus, I think -- both for historical curiosity and listenablility -- there should be a box set of demos (no alt. takes or anything) for BBs songs spanning 1963-78.

Golly gee, that'd be swell! But jeepers Wally, perhaps a more appropriate phrase would be "hmm... what's up, Brian?" and use the sound clip from Endless Harmony
