Don Costa- Heroes & Villians 1967

I was at a thrift shop the other day, when I found this... and had to take a chance on it for 95 cents.  Its a LP featuring a 1960s "lounge-ish" version of Brian Wilson's song "Heroes and Villians".  Its by arranger Don Costa, dating from around 1967 or so.  It seems that Costa was simply covering a recent Beach Boys single, but I think he accidentally got very close to the general sound of what Smile would have been, had it come out.  This is really good!!

Don Costa worked a lot with Frank but not on the Jobim sessions. The Francis Albert Sinatra and Antonio Carlos Jobim lp (possibly the greatest album of all times) was arranged and conducted by Claus Ogerman.

The side with Jobim songs - in fact a whole album was recorded, but some tracks were shelved - was arranged by Briazilian Eumir Deodato. Don Costa worked on the other side of the LP, which by the way was released in 1970.

Yes, that's why I referred to the "Jobim sessions". The Dedodato sessions were left in the can for a couple of years
