Moon, who died in 1978 (bassist John Entwistle died in 2002), always had aspirations to be a singer, and Daltrey says Moon was never happier then when he was singing Beach Boys songs.
"He was a mad Beach Boys fan. He would have left The Who at the drop of a hat to join the Beach Boys.
"Even at our height, when the Beach Boys were on their way down and The Who were at the top of the world, if the Beach Boys had asked him to drum for them, he would have gone. We used to do Barbara Ann for Keith to keep him happy."

I wonder if Keith and Dennis ever met, hung out or partied together?
They would seem to have had a LOT in common.

Keith and the BB shared the stage together in London, 1972...well ok, for about 20 seconds when Keith announced the BB. The concert where Elton John played keyboard on "Help Me Rhonda".
Since Keith lived in LA, there's a chance he met Dennis. There was a pic of him and Brian on Wireimages from around 1977.
Yes, Moon had good musical taste and he covered "Don't Worry Baby" on his solo album "Behind the Moon" or whatever the name was.

According to Tony Fletcher's biog of Keith, Brian attended the sessions for
Two Sides Of The Moon
. Not sure I go for that...
The London 1972 gig was Crystal Palace Bowl. There's a shot on p.67 of Mike, Keith (in a blue robe, apparently) and Elton.

This trickled over into his love for Jan & Dean's "Bucket T," which they performed and recorded.

A London stage photo showing Keith in the background was used for the French 45 picture sleeve of "Child of Winter" (Reprise 14383)

Keith also showed Bruce around on his solo 1966 UK visit to promote Pet Sounds...Bruce tells a story about Keith Moon in one of the campfire sequences of the Endless Summer show (it is on Youtube)-involving pubs and mouthwash...

According to the Allmusic guide review, when Brian heard "Don't Worry Baby" Brian broke down sobbing when he heard Moon's single version of the song, and they weren't tears of joy.

I like the Beatles a bit more than the Boys of Beach, I think Brian's band is the tops---really amazing. And finally, I'm liberal. That's it.

There were certainly a number of Dennis Wilson/Keith Moon path crossings through the years...one of which is on page 169 of The Real Beach Boy book. I was also told that while Keith and Dennis were both living in Malibu in the late '70's, that Dennis "visited" Keith's wife while Keith was away.

...and it apparently became their biggest hit ever in Sweden, much to Roger Daltrey's dismay.

I'm a huge hardcore fan of The Who. Keith was actually asked to play a few shows with The Beach Boys in 1972, I think. Although, the year 1972 conflicts with The Who's touring schedule. Keith and Bruce Johnston appeared on Top Of The Pops in 1966. There is actually an infamous story about that. Keith was supposed to play a Who gig the day of the TOTP show with Bruce. He didn't tell Bruce, though. Keith was late to the Who gig, and the show ended with a huge on stage fight. Pete Townshend "accidentally" hit Keith in the eye with his guitar. Keith quit the band for about two weeks, and The Who very nearly broke up. It was reported in the papers that John Entwistle and Keith were going to form another band.

I started watching those and it's funny to see Brian kind of harassing Mike. He makes a point to mention Mike's flop Looking Back With Love when they're around the campfire, and tells a story about the hood on Mike's car flipping up and cracking his windshield. And when somebody asks the band how they stay together, Brian responds, "By not hanging out together..."

Yes...but if you watch the clip...I think Brian honestly liked Mike's album-or at least he honestly listened to it many times. If you want to get Brian to listen to an album a lot-put Be My Baby on it...
