It's a new generation discovering the Beach Boys! (maybe...) Years from now, when everyone's forgotten about acts like Fall Out Boy and the like, and when all the "hip" acts being hawked by Pitchfork (TV on the Radio, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, etc. etc.) sound dated as hell, people will still be singing the praises of B. Wilson and Co.!

Every Beach Boys and BW release is "hawked by Pitchfork."

I ought to expand on that. I don't mean to knock you. But how do you think every new generation finds older music? Movies, yeah. Older brothers, sisters, parents' collections, yeah. But also music journalism, including Pitchfork and its ilk. And really, whatever else you think of the music they tend to cover, they do pretty consistently give very good press to the Beach Boys' catalogue, BW solo music and the Dennis reissue this year. Considering they're doing a lot of that work to convert new fans, maybe you ought to cut them a little slack.

I see where your all coming from, but I look at the itunes charts everyday, pet sounds was just like 99% of the albums on it yesterday, not in the 100, now it's 24???   Shocked

Selling more than Coldplay, Pink all those people.

I think we all missed something big.

Sorry 'bout that. I'm actually a pretty regular Pitchfork reader, and I love how they're always giving good reviews to BB stuff. I actually do like a lot of the stuff they cover. But for some reason I just feel like I have a score to settle with Pitchfork...quite possibly because of the "we're cooler than you" attitude they sometimes exhibit. Plus, I'm very cynical towards hype unless its a band I've heard or heard of before that I know is good or I know has a good track record.

No, I know what you mean. But constantly ragging on someone else's "cooler than thou" attitude to me seems no different than having one of your own. (I don't mean to personalize this against you. I mean it generally.) Pitchfork pisses me off regularly, too. But it has as much a place as any other review site or magazine, and actually does a better job of exposing some things than other, more traditionally reputable ones.

Yes.

The reason that it is selling so much is that it is on sale on iTunes, for $4.99. That is half of what other albums sell for there.

Well put. I was really only mentioning Pitchfork to emphasize the timelessness of BW's music versus a lot of "flavor of the moment" stuff.
