This idea sort of follows on from the how to make a BB album better thread. I was recently trying to put together all the outtakes etc. from the Sunflower/Landlocked period and I ended up compiling a playlist of all my favourite tracks from 1969/70 that Brian had a hand in writing. I like to think of it as what a solo Brian Wilson Sunflower might have sounded like. I tend to think Brian was drying up creatively around this period but when you put all these tracks together and listen to the whole thing, it's difficult to believe:

Breakaway
I Just Got My Pay
HELP is on the way
Add Some Music
Souldful Old Man Sunshine
Games Two Can Play
Good Time
This Whole World
Cool Cool Water
Our Sweet Love
All I Wanna Do
At My Window
A Day In The Life Of A Tree
'Til I Die

Anything I've missed, or tracks that don't belong there?

Does anyone have a similar 're-write the BB history' type of DIY album?

Well yeh, you've missed out pretty much all the great Dennis songs of the time, both released and unreleased: Celebrate the News, Lady, 4th of July, It's About Time, I'm Going Your Way, Slip On Through, Wouldn't It Be Nice.. But then I guess that's only in keeping with what the band themselves so often chose to do at the time. Miaow!

I believe buddhahat wanted to put his favorite Brian-written or co-written songs togetehr.
I like it. I'd put "When girls get togetehr" on there, too. Dunno why, I hated that song not long ago, but now I really dig it.

a diseased bunch of mo'fos if there ever was one… their beauty is so awesome that listening to them at their best is like being in some vast dream cathedral decorated with a thousand gleaming American pop culture icons.

PRO SHOT BEACH BOYS CONCERTS - LIST

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

Same here. I've been playing "Keepin' The Summer Alive" a lot recently... It's still one of the BB albums I like the less, but I really dig the last three tracks since two weeks or so.  Smiley

I like it too. I do prefer the earlier version left off of Sunflower, but for the life of me I can't figure out why, as it sounds nearly identical!

It's funny but When Girls Get Tohether is the only Sunflower track (along with maybe Take A Load Of Your Feet) that I just don't like. I think those sessions are incredable some of everybodies best stuff ever. One track that get's overlooked is Don't You Just Know It the duet Brian did with Jan Berry. He didn't write it but it's a fun record.

I ummed and ahhd about that song. It's really grown on me too but for this comp it just didn't seem to fit. What I love about all the songs in the above list is that they have a real cohesivenessness. They all feel sort of (cue dumb description) full of sunshine - very uplifiting. Plus some are really funny - HELP is on the way, Games Two Can Play, Good Time, Just Got My Pay. I love the humorous, playful side of BW's songs. I wonder if these type of songs got increasingly side-lined as the BB wanted to promote a more hip and earnest image of the band as they moved into the 70s? Certainly Smiley, Wild Honey and Friends sound a lot funnier than all the albums that followed, up until Love You which is obviously predominately Brian.

Also, is Soulful Old Man Sunshine an original composition or a cover?
