Remember around Sept 06 when there was news of a new BW album with the bulk of the instruments and voices by Brian and Scott Bennett? The Bacharach song, Proud Mary and a handful of others... Anyone heard anything since then? Is the album still in the works? Is it still largely a two-man affair? Anything...?

Is the album still in the works? Anything...?

The album, That Lucky Old Sun, was released in January 2007. It quickly shot to the top of the album charts, staying at No. 1 for five weeks. A single, "What Love can Do", was quickly released and it also went No. 1 on the singles charts for six consecutive weeks. In February, Brian premiered That Lucky Old Sun at The Royal Festival Hall in England, performing the album in it's entirety. On opening night, Burt Bacharach was in attendance, with tears in his eyes, sitting in the front row. After Brian performed "What Love Can Do", he motioned for Burt to join him on stage, where the two embraced. Brian then performed his next single, "God Only Knows", and closed the show with another track from the new album, "Proud Mary". For $100, you got to meet Brian Wilson backstage after the concert, which included an autograph, one question, a handshake, a snapshot, and replica doll.

Whew, it's time for me to meditate... police

I think the report of the album last year was shot down by a member of Brian's band, who said that Scott and Brian were putting together demos, not a finished product.

That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if something comes out this year pegged on the "Lucky Old Sun" premiere. That seems like an obvious candidate for recording.

Until then, I see Brian is adding a few backing vocals on Taylor Mills new album.

I assumed that 'What love can do' was going to be part of the new album, obviously that might not be the case now but it would be shame if it was not included. I believe there was also a report of a new Spanish language ballad that apparently would "Rival God only Knows!"

Hollywood TodayBeach Boys Wilson to Premiere Long-awaited Solo LP and Tour
Tuesday, May 15th, 2007
By Tom Wright

HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today) 5/15/07 — Beach Boy legend Brian Wilson is putting finishing touches on his long-awaited new studio album which he will premiere in September in at Royal Festival Hall in London where he bowed “Smile” in 2004, sources told Hollywood Today.

The show will cap a summer tour with BB alumni Al Jardine in the U.S. and Europe where Wilson will perform his seminal Beach Boy tunes, before switching to the new material after the September launch of the album.

The album is tentatively said to be called “Lucky Old Sun,” though “The Warmth of the Sun” from Capitol Records is the title of a Beach Boy 28-song compilation album being released May 22, and a podcast on Wilson’s own website. There was no explanation of the similarity from Capitol at presstime, though Wilson himself is not one of their artists. Wilson’s album will be a series of short songs all connected together, sources said.

One person not likely to be on the album or tour is cousin Mike Love, who was dealt a blow today in court against Wilson. While the members of the band have been suing each since the 60s, a Federal judge dismissed claims against Wilson for a 2004 promo album that had BB songs on it.

Not only was Love not required to inform Love of the Beach Boy-related CD release, according to US District Judge Audrey Collins, who ruled that Love was unable to prove that a fiduciary duty even existed.

“Most damaging to [Love’s] case, when asked directly if he and [Wilson] entered into an oral partnership agreement, he simply states that they sat down and co-wrote songs together and that they never entered into a formal agreement,” Collins wrote. “Certainly [Love] and [Wilson] were collaborators, but [Love’s] mere belief that they had a legal partnership and his repeated use of the term ‘partnership’ cannot substitute for evidence that a legal partnership in fact existed.”

The case was one of a number that Love has filed against Wilson over the years, although this is the first time that Wilson won outright. In 1994, Love was granted $13 million for songs he claimed to have co-written with Brian in the 1960s. Love also is suing Jardine for using the brand mark Beach Boys.

That's an interesting article.  I thought "Lucky Old Sun" was just a long form work, not necessarily an "album".  Either way I'm looking forward to it.

The article was a bit nonsensical with regard to saying about the connections of the titles between 'Warmth of the sun', and 'Lucky old sun', it's only the word 'sun', it's no big deal or any news story, loads of Beach Boys and related stuff have similar titles, they kind of have the monopoly on words like sun, summer, surf and california!
Anyway thats the thing which grated me!
Apart from the bit about Love informing Love of the CD release?!
What poor journalism.

That is some of the worst writing I have ever seen from someone who presumably writes for a living.  I have one word for Mr. Wright: proofreader.

I don't understand what it is that's wrong with that article...If the album part is true shouldn't we all be excited, very cautiously excited, but still...? Maybe the insiders around here know more than his insiders do, and if that's the case I would 'Love' to hear their tale!

The fact that the "journalist" wastes column inches concerned that this supposed new Brian album "tentatively said" to be called "Lucky Old Sun" features the same word in the title as the upcoming Beach Boys compilation "The Warmth Of The Sun" really throws the reporting into question. I sure hope that the "source" of this info isn't that spurious post I made on another thread where I speculated that Brian might have a new album called "Lucky Old Sun"!
