Hey Andrew, I just wanted to let you know I received your Beach Boys guidebook in the mail today.  It's quite a good book!  It's also nice to see you give my old stomping ground the Male Ego Board a nod.  Too bad that site finally met its demise a few years ago.

I was wondering if you have plans for updating this book or writing another one...perhaps covering bootlegs and live performaces?

Bootlegs ? What are these... bootlegs ? I do not understand this strange word.  Roll Eyes

Whilst I'd like to think I'll get asked to update it again in 2011 (eve if it would mean having to listen to GIOMH a few more times...) I somehow doubt it'll happen. it's possible I'll content myself with posting additions and corrections (amazingly enough, there are a few errors in the book)

Hang on... "quite a good book" ?!?  Sir, I demand satisfaction - instruct your page to discuss the details with my man.

Mind you, I remember you saying that you didn't think that you would update the first edition, thats why you had the supplement with the solo stuff on a site a cfew years back, you never know, they might relaunch the series again.
Not to be a brown-nose, but yours is one of the better of the series in that it covers all the odds and ends which aren't even available. Quite a few of the others just do the main albums, and some don't even discuss quite a lot of tracks (The Queen and Genesis ones miss out B sides and stuff like that)

Some of the ComGuides are outstanding (the Pink Floyd one springs to mind), whilst others are dire (notably the Queen and Doors efforts). On the whole, it's a good series.

Interesting note: the author of the volume on Madonna is a noted Beach Boys fan,and managed to make several comparisons to Brian Wilson...but in a pro Brian, anti-Madonna way. I.E. him saying to listen to Pet Sounds as an "antidote" to her 1987 remix album.
