Does anyone have any information on these two Japanese compilations from 2000?  I found some interesting reviews of them on allmusic.

The Beach Boys Greatest Hits 1 1962-1965
http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&token=ADFEAEE5731FD94EAD7720C381324DC5B125A429D94EFB87126E495AD1A91D5AAE0341B75BCD95C9AEFB7CAB7BAFFF29E85805D7C2E455F5CC1740&sql=10:0jfwxqwkld6e

The Beach Boys Greatest Hits 2 1966-1969

The most interesting part of the reviews are when they refer to the excellent sound quality:

"...the guitars as well as the voices all sounding like they're in the same room with you."
&
"The bass drum in "You're Welcome" sounds like it's in the same room with you and the piano, Theremin, and bass on "Wild Honey," and all of the instruments on "Gettin' Hungry," are just as close, and they sound like original raw studio masters, they're so clean and detailed."

Am I to assume that the masters used here are the same as the masters used on the 2001 Capitol two-fer reissues?  Does any one have these two comps and can comment?  Apologies if this has been discussed already.

I have (had?) these somewhere, haven't listened to them in ages.

I'm in the process of moving again.  If I find them while digging out I'll give them a spin and post back.

"Because of the attitude of a few mental dinosaurs intent on exploiting our initial success, Brian's huge talent has never been fully appreciated in America and the potential of the group has been stifled.... If the Beatles had suffered this kind of misrepresentation, they would have never got past singing 'Please Please Me' and 'I Wanna Hold Your Hand' and leaping around in Beatle suits."
