I don't think the Beatles even considered recording "Isn't It A Pity", let alone interpolate parts of "Hey Jude" into it. Sounds like something George Martin might have attempted in an early version of "LOVE"! I've always taken it that "Isn't It A Pity" was Harrison's comment on the end of The Beatles and to drive the point home he recorded a version where the ending was similar to the "Hey Jude" fade out. Personally, I prefer the shorter alternate take (both versions were included on the "All Things Must Pass" album).

The Hey Jude chant is indeed on the ATMP version, mixed down - Dhani Harrison sang it at the George tribute.

Isn't It A Pity isn't about the Beatles, it was written as early as 1966, and rejected for REVOLVER, as per Revolution in the Head. Harrison recorded a proper demo of it as a Beatle, in January 1969 and played with it during the Get Back sessions.

I don't doubt that "Isn't It A Pity" was written earlier. Harrison had a huge stockpile of songs that didn't make it onto Beatles albums. 1966 seems a little early for its style; 1968 seems more like it. But I'll defer to the "Revolution In the Head" quote. I recognize that a chant that is very similar to the one used in "Hey Jude" appears on "Ver. 1" of the song on "All Things Must Pass" and that's my point: by the time of this recording (1970), I suspect Harrison created the extended "Hey Jude"- like outro so the listener would see the song's subject matter in a new light - namely as a comment on the fate of the Beatles.

Punkinhead - you're  talking about a mix that includes the actual "Hey Jude" vocals during the IIAP fade, right? Different, I mean, from the "Hey Jude"-like vocals that were part of the original song.

shame how george's stuff wasnt given much of a chance, kind of like dennis wilson....

i know inner light was a b-side, but that was more of a stink...songs like Old Brown Shoe, Piggies, Taxman...not given proper light (imo)

The Inner Light is one of the best things the Beatles did, IMO.

It's a shame Let It Be doesn't feature Isn't It A Pity, Let it Down and All Things Must Pass, all of which were rehearsed, but one egomaniac and one apathetic smackhead didn't give them a chance, as you say. Instead we have Dig A Pony.

Once they went solo John mucked up his records with Yoko and or the need to be subjective. He did a lot of good stuff but never really got consistently as great as he had been. Paul started out strong but the first two Wings LP's are not up to Beatles quality and the rest of his career with few exceptions (Band On The Run) never had the schlock factor completely removed. Ringo we know would never match the other three as likable as he is. It is George who blossemed and with the exception of two or three LPs was a consumate artist.  I wish he had recorded more, but the fact that he only released music spoaradically after the early 70s meant that we got to hear basically all prime stuff. He was terrific.
