Shared on Instagram, some really beautiful songs which producer Jonathan Wilson claims were the last recordings Brian ever worked on (man, it hurts to say that):

The first song sounds like Matt Jardine singing. Does anyone know anything about these recordings?

Thanks for sharing!

The first link sounds like it has elements of 'From There To Back Again' in the harmonies, wonder if, since it's connected with JT, it is part of the life suite material.

Gets me thinking that I really hope Brian's camp is able to get some material like this released in the coming years. He has so many outtakes, demos, songs, etc that really deserve to be heard. I don't know how feasible such a project would be, but it sure would be popular amongst us Brianistas.

The captions on the videos indicate these recordings were done fairly recently, and there's also the comment about them being the last songs Brian worked on. I wonder if Brian revisited the "Life Suite" in the last few years.

Right?  Even if it's just an online dump like they've done on Brian's official website, just to keep costs down.

Interesting stuff.

I'd suggest grabbing these tracks if you're interested; these might get pulled.

Sounds like Joe was involved, but remotely. Do we know if Brian worked with Joe post-No Pier Pressure? I'm not sure these tracks would post-date the 2018-ish tracks he cut for the "Long Promised Road" soundtrack.

Can definitely hear Brian on the backing vocals, and maybe doubling the lead in a few bits. I suppose this is Matt on the leads, though it sounds like it's been sped up or otherwise juiced with some autotune or something along those lines. Sounds like Al in there too, though Matt can tend to sound like Al as well.

I'd say the one song sounds in places like "Shelter" from TWGMTR, but I would guess that just has more to do with the writing style/patterns on some of those Brian/Joe songs.

I have an idea about what might be going on here. It's just based on a couple of pieces of information, so bear with me.

I believe that Joe Thomas was working on assembling another BW solo record at the time of his (Joe's) death. Scott Bennett -- who is going by another easily uncovered name on social media these days -- posted that the two had been in touch about unreleased material. Scott has also written that he's hoping to release a batch of TLOS-era songs soon.

Putting two and two together, I wonder if Joe was essentially deputizing teams of producers to whip BW outtakes into shape for that last record. We know the Life Suite material was left over from TWGMTR, and I've been assured by those in the know that there were tons of outtakes from NPP. Add those together with whatever material Scott might be sitting on, and you could have a really solid album.

I very much doubt Brian worked on any of this stuff within the past few years, but the new production team and the Jardines may well have been spiffing them up.

As posted here, Joe's death appears to have scuttled the project. But I do hope the recordings get out one way or another.

Thanks Bedroom Tapes!

So good to hear from Scott, and that "Strangers" cover is sublime. Brian "reimagines" the song. It should be a bonus track for the "Adult Child" album.

Those types of shows are usually archived online so they can be streamed at a later date, but I can't seem to find this one. Is there a chance he just played "Strangers in the Night" again?

Also, I distinctly recall Brian in an interview mentioning he wanted to do an album of Sinatra tunes. I think this was between 2012-15. Does anyone remember exactly when that was?

The show played an unreleased BW original likely titled “Friday Night.” Imagine a combination of “I Just Got My Pay” and “Concert Tonight” sung by 2007 Brian. But better than that sounds.

Were you able to listen to it live?

It was played on a radio show and I really enjoyed it. One could imagine what Brian's rock and roll album might have sounded like.

Thanks!

Sounds very much like something he would do in the late 70s.

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

Came across this link on YouTube with the unreleased song (apparently called“Friday Night” ) that Scott Bennett provided during his interview with the British Radio Station.  I had some trouble getting the station link archive to play; perhaps I need to try with a VPN so I can also hear the interview. But anyway, this was easier.  Guessing from the description, someone posted it who is familiar with or on this SS.net board also so thank you for that.

I love it personally.  It is really cool to hear a Brian rocker, a great fit for his voice/vocals at that time, in my opinion.

Confirmation from Todd Sucherman today on Facebook, regarding a new Brian album:

An unfinished Brian Wilson song:  In October 2023 I was hired by producer Joe Thomas to record a couple songs for Brian Wilson. Joe told me the plan was for this to be his final record, and this song “Never Land” was to be the final song ending the record. Shortly after this Melinda Wilson passed away, then Joe passed away, and then Brian. I can’t share the music but I can share my ten parts I recorded for the end section into a “long goodbye” fade out. I imagined Brian soaring over the ocean and disappearing into “Neverland” which is what I tried to convey with my parts. I hope you can feel it, and my heart was so deep into this. I wish this could have been finished, but alas…
