For those of you who, like me, enjoy researching obscure details about the Beach Boys:

The August 5, 1976, NBC television special about the Beach Boys featured a segment in which Dennis is seen judging a beauty pageant while a live version of “California Girls” is being performed.

According to the article published in the June 30, 1976 issue (page 6) of the “Pacifica Tribune” (attached), that was the “Floral Fiesta Dream Girl Pageant” held on Friday, June 25, 1976 at the San Mateo, California County Fair.

Nice find-must admit that it never occurred to me to look into that-I assume the whole special was probably filmed in late June (Brian’s birthday on June 20 being a big part of it)

The June 30, 1976 issue of the "South San Francisco Enterprise Journal" also discusses the pageant and references the Susan Seaton mentioned in the video clip.

I had no idea that Denis (sic) Wilson was "the guiding genius behind the Beach Boys." I love Dennis, but I think the reporter has him confused with Brian here. Also, while this is neither here nor there, I noted that they mention the attendance of Congressman Leo Ryan. Two years later Congressman Ryan was among five people murdered in Guyana by member of Rev. Jim Jones' temple when he tried to investigate the Jonestown cult.
