Rocker, I can't seem to get the Blondie link to work. Will try again later to find it.
It seems like it doesn't work anymore. I just tried it myself. I guess the site doesn't exist anymore.

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

I've only saw this in snippets in the past, but now freshly uploaded (only yesterday) in full, that is cool!

Something's wrong here. At the seven-minute mark, Reilley says he was determined to have the Beach Boys play at Monterey in '67. Didn't he only meet Brian Wilson for the first time two years later? Could he have meant the later Big Sur festival instead?

Either Rieley (note the spelling) was telling porkies or he genuinely got his knickers in a twist. But the festival in question was Big Sur.

Jack, bless his memory, always told a good, sometimes great, story. Some of them were even true.
To be entirely fair to him, his subsequent comments make it completely clear he was talking about the 1970 Big Sur festival, which was held at the Monterey Fairgrounds, I believe. Certainly in Monterey, and back in the day I saw it referred to as Monterey Pop II more than once.
That said, I think SWD would be amazed to know he was even
working
for the band in 1972, much less flown to Holland.
They certainly made a lasting impression: a BB friend of mine was driving back home from the USSR in the 80s (as you do) and on seeing a sign for Baambrugge took a considerable detour to see the town. At the first bar they fell into he asked if anyone remembered the band. "Oh yes", came the reply, "The Beach Boys... they drank many many drinks, and took many many drugs".

Thanks, Andrew. Now it all falls into place. Great closing anecdote!
