Made as many quality significant albums than the BBs, think about it. Every artist of the rock era in the last 50+ yrs had a couple, few albums tops that made history but the BBs w the 16 albums from surfin safari thru holland ALL killer...even elvis most of his great records were his singles.

I agree, this has to be some kind of joke... There is some killer material, but of course there's a large amount of Filler, especially in the first 6 albums

One or two tracks on an album is worth even calling filler when the album is solid?? This seems to be more of a BBs criticism group than a celebration. Either that or so many of these "experts" are really critics than appreciative consumers. Who didn't or doesn't have a weaker track or two on an album. RockNroll has always been the single primary and then the album.

I think most of their stuff between Surfin' USA and Light Album was absolute killer and after that there were still some occasional highlights up until, um, 2012. Not too bad...

How many times have you made this exact same topic now? Three?

On our way through this "backstage" maze, Bruce joined up with the group and said hello, singing "It Never Rains in Southern California" and joking with some of the older ladies. I'm not sure if they knew he was a Beach Boy or simply an enthusiastic elderly gay gentleman.

Beatles.  Stones.  AC/DC.  Queen.  There are lots of great groups who made as many outstanding albums.  The only fact that matters if the FACT that the Beach Boys belong in the converstation.  [After Holland though?  Only solo works would count...from Brian...at least 2.  From Dennis...1.  {oh and finally...SMiLE.]

from Surfin USA to Holland yeah. MIU has four solid rock songs, two of em being covers, the Light album only has shortenin bread, KTSA had the title cut and the cover of school days...the rockNroll quality/integrity of their music ceased in 76/77....having singles charting higher on the adult contemporary, thats a bummer.

Boy. I think I'd have to say that the best groups that also stood up as being as good as the Beach Boys includes...

THE RAMONES
THE DESCENDENTS
GREEN DAY
FALL OUT BOY
SUM 41
SIMPLE PLAN
BLINK 182

and of course

MY 14 YEAR OLD NEIGHBOR'S POP PUNK BAND.

These are the bands carrying on the Beach Boys legacy, and really if you think about it, the only worthwhile bands of the past 30 years.  Grin

Here is what always fascinates me. Forget the number of unreleased tracks (of course I mean before we got the box sets). No other group that I know of had the number of unreleased LPs (or "projects"). That boggles my mind.

Live In Chicago 1965
Live at U of M 1966
SMiLE
Live In Hawaii 1967
Reverberations
Add Some Music
The Second Brother LP
SMiLE 1972
The Single LIVE LP 1972
The Caribou sessions 1974
New Album
Adult Child
Cousins Friends and Brothers 1982
The Reunion Project 1995
Stars And Stripes Vol 2

I am sure some will say these were proposed LPs and not really intended for release. I am just saying these were projects that were started and moved forward with a definite plan.

I'm sad that I even have to write this, but the whole post was a joke. I figured listing "my 14 year old neighbor's pop punk band" woulda given it away but I guess not.

Anyways, none of those bands are worth a damn outside of the Ramones. Green Day has a small, small handful of listenable material, and the Descendants are a cookie-cutter pop-punk group, but they were okay. The rest of the list is absolute sh*t. But regardless, my point is I don't think any of the bands on my list are in the top 500 groups of the past thirty years, much less the top 10.
