It's like sitting in on an informal jam session among musicians, where songs are traded back and forth along with stories. And the musicianship is great to begin with, at times it's outstanding.

You don't need to be a Hall And Oates fan to enjoy the show, just check it out at the link.

The one sad element of this is when you see an older episode and get to see just how great of a musician (and bandleader/musical director) the late T-Bone Wolk really was.

Yeah, I never know when one's a repeat or not and always have to remind myself T-Bone's no longer around. He was such a great presence on that show.

I'm a major Hall & Oates fan ... I dig all their stuff, especially the per-superstardom ear when Oates sang more leads.

I was listening to XM the other day, and ther'es this sh*t-kicking 'outlaw' country guy hosting some show, and he's playing all these pretty rough songs, then he played "You make my dreams come true" and when the song was over, he says "That's Hall & Oates... and if you don't like Hall & Oates, you don't like music"

Daryl pulls in some real good guests.  Todd being one my favorites.  They did a great version of Didn't I Blow Your Mind This Time - a track I've been wanting to nominate in the What Would you Like to Have Had the Beach Boys Cover thread.  Hall and Oates, are they still together?  I recall Daryl wanting to throw in the towel after T-Bone passed.  They had a good run though.  The box set they put out was done very well, with some great early live tracks.  I thought they were better pre-fame, so add my name to that list. War Babies was my favorite, Abandoned Luncheonette was a close second.  John had some great stuff on the early albums like Las Vegas Turnaround.  He should have pushed harder to get tracks on the albums.  I agree, he was held back in the lead singer department after they hit big.  Maybe that was a producers decision, not Daryl's.  When I saw them live, it was a more equal split.  But, since he had fewer numbers, he could release only his best tracks.  Beauty On A Back Street and Along The Red Ledge are two of my favorites from the fame-era, but all their albums had at least five or six stand out tracks. Daryl lives near here (I'm in Ulster County NY), or he did, but for some reason never plays live dates in the area.

John wrote or co-wrote a lot of the hits, one example being "Maneater" - it started as his song, but the record company asked that Daryl be the singer on it. Oates strikes me as being utterly devoid of ego, not many guys can be happy in that second banana role.
