In an interview from the late 60s or 70s Carl told an interviewer that there's a rehab institution somewhere in the Stated where they play Friends (at least I think it was Friends) to the patients and it really helps them to relax.

I remember it being Smiley Smile.

I tried to find the quote but can't seem to locate it right now. Anyway, it seems rather weird that crackheads were able to relax to the agitated weirdness of Smiley Smile. LOL But maybe you're right. Like I said, can't remember it properly.

Carl talked about a free clinic in  Houston Texas where they used to play Smiley Smile in the late 60s/early 70s

I also thought it was weird.  Friends definitely seems like a more obvious choice.

A heartwarming story in the best sense of that often-overused term. As wonderful as others' music is, all of us here know that there is a special quality to the BBs music that connects emotionally in a unique, virtually indefinable way.

Despite what often gets said about Mike (and Bruce), there's no doubt in my mind that they know that as well as (and quite possibly better than) anyone--and, in fact, experience that emotional engagement as part of their performances.

Continually rediscovering the depth and breadth of the pleasure and joy that their music continues to create has got to be a significant reason why Mike stays out on the road, and this is just one of the many stories that entwine themselves around the still-remarkable odyssey of a musical achievement and legacy that will surely stand the test of time.

i hope he apologized to the kid for ruining Smile

F*uck SMILE!

There, I said it!

That kid doesn't want to have to suffer through 45 hours of "roll roll roll, plymoth rock, roll over" just to get to a couple decent songs.... Good riddance.

Here's the quote you're thinking of, found it on Smiley Smile's wikipedia page.

Quote from: Carl Wilson, 1970
In Fort Worth, Texas, there is a drug clinic which takes people off the streets and helps them get over bad LSD trips. They don't use any traditional medical treatment whatsoever. All they do is play the patient our Smiley Smile album and apparently this acts as a soothing remedy which relaxes them and helps them to recover completely from their trip.

On our way through this "backstage" maze, Bruce joined up with the group and said hello, singing "It Never Rains in Southern California" and joking with some of the older ladies. I'm not sure if they knew he was a Beach Boy or simply an enthusiastic elderly gay gentleman.

This is great, as I work as an ABA therapist with autistic kids and my love for the beach boys, this obviously grabs my attention.

I'm not sure what your point is, but I'm so into the Beach Boys that I sometimes even listen to those of their records that I don't like at all... Shocked

My point is, I get tired of trolls always dragging everything Beach Boys related back to SMILE and Mike Vs Brian ..... I love SMILE but it's just one great album out of many.... and it's hardly my favorite.

wow you brave

or either just insane or a complete masochist

But seriously: sometimes I wish SMILE never existed or would just go away so I can enjoy my Beach Boys in peace. We got enough great stuff via it's wreckage on 20/20, Surf's Up, Smiley without having to endure
"Du du du du du,  du-du-du, du-du-du, du-du-du" over and over and over and over and over and......

God bless the soul of Dennis Wilson....he was the Beach Boy who REALLY had a love and a heart for people with developmental disabilities. I saw it myself.

This point of yours certainly didn't come across your first way of formulating it. Thanks for clarification.
