Yeah. They should have had Brian waving a dildo around in front of his kids, bowl-fulls of cocaine strewn around his bed, and made Eugene Landy a puppeteer controlling Brian's arms.

lawl, what? You're going in the opposite direction, but in total extremes. No one's asking that such trivial events in his life be highlighted.

I realize this was a "just for fun" thing, was just sayin' I disagree with Dr. Voldelabra's notion that the lies that surround Brian and the Beach Boys' legacy should be preserved because it makes for a better story.

It's just a music video, people....not a 2 hour documentary on the troubled life of Brian.
Not getting the point, much like the guys who produced the video.  Wink

I thought it was a good summary of the life of Brian through the public's eye.

And production aside, I’d so much rather hear a 14 year old David Marks shred some guitar on Chug-a-lug than hear a 51 year old Mike Love sing about bangin some chick in a swimming pool.-rab2591

I went to extremes (in a sarcastic nature) because people are taking this video way too seriously.

I get what you were saying to Dr. Voldelabra - My post was for the people who are incredibly flustered by the video itself: A quirky/well-made music video portraying Brian Wilson's life should not induce sickness among its viewers....just sayin'.

I didn't mean that it should be preserved per se, I just find it unsurprising that this is the way the public views Brian Wilson. As much as I'd love to see a scene of him working with the Rovell sisters and David Sandler in the early '70s or whatever, obviously that's incredibly unlikely to happen. Given that this is "Brian Wilson 101", I think Aucoin did a good job. Though it does make me want to chat with him about The Beach Boys next time he's in town, haha.

This video is entirely inaccurate. If there was ever a time to catch Brian crowd-surfing on a surfboard, he'd be wearing that opulent, rock god robe and teaching the crowd all of the parts of Shortnin' Bread.

To say that I disliked this video means to say nothing. The song itself's O.K., there are much better & much worse songs in this genre & I don't mind 'Til I Die reference. But the video is downright awful. And it's not because of the inaccuracies. It's the matter of choosing the BBs' lookalikes which is very-very bad. Their smiles, when they hold that surfboard to be photographed, are jolly artificial. How about being more genuine? As Stanislavsky would say, "I don't believe".

It's not meant to be an accurate documentary on the band. They didn't cast lookalikes. It's a music video by Rich Aucoin for his single, with a storyline depicting the 'major' events of Brian Wilson's spotlighted career. It is artificial! I'd have thought the people on this board would be raving about the details they included in this video....

I like both the video and the song - both strike me as loving tributes. I've actually known & had the song for years so I'm curious why it's only now come with a video ? I think this is a sort of radio edit / single mix, which I personally find inferior to the version I know already.

Someone lamented the lack of striped shirts? Well, here they are in another indie-pop context:

Totally agree. I find people picking on 'wrongs' in the short movie to be humour-free. And I actually think the vid being constructed out of perceived 'clichés' the funniest thing in it - it's like making a Beatles vid where actually Paul died in 1967 or thereabouts, and was replaced by a lookalike, or a twin brother, and no one noticed, except a few tin-foil hat wearing superbrains.

And as for the movie itself: I nearly wet myself laughing when Darian stepped in...

And I bet Brian loves it.

It's a bit of fun - no need to believe anything!  Thank goodness people are still referencing Brian and the BBs - as Stan Laurel would say: 'What is comedy? I don't know' Cheesy

I can't believe how some people are picking this thing apart.  It's just a video!  The song is ok; I'm not into that post-disco 80s sounding thing, but I've heard a lot worse.   I took the video itself to be somewhat of a parody, and a clever one at that.

It's like watching An American Family--don't take it too seriously, or you might as well shut it off.

So does Brian! Wink

In any case, if I didn't know already, this thread confirmed it...I really do feel like I stick out like a sore thumb here at times, being that I really liked the song and thought the video was clever.

The truth of the BBs story is what I believe, but there is something so entrancing about the version put out in the video.
