There is a deluxe, 3 CD version of The Velvet Underground's White Light/White Heat coming out on December 3rd. Lou and John supposedly curated this set themselves, which includes a mono and stereo remaster of the original album.

It also includes:
  • "alternate versions of tracks like 'Hey Mr. Rain'"
  • "new mixes of 'Beginning to See the Light' and 'Guess I'm Falling in Love'"
  • "previously unreleased vocal and instrumental versions of 'The Gift'"
  • "never-before-heard live set recorded at the Gymnasium in New York on April 30th, 1967"

And, perhaps the most exciting part, tracks that were recorded with Cale, but left off the final version of WL/WH, will be included. As this might be my favorite VU record, I cannot wait to hear some more songs in the WL/WH vein.

You can pre-order it here: http://www.amazon.com/White-Light-Heat-3CD-Anniversary/dp/B00FH3UI66/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1380843448&sr=8-1&keywords=white+light%2Fwhite+heat+3cd

I find White Light/White Heat a pretty lazy album. There are only six songs, one of which is not really a song (The Gift) the other is an almost unlistenable free-form jam.

I absolutely love "Sister Ray." That song is amazing. It's a song played with absolute, reckless abandon with a battle for volume happening between the band members.

Also, I don't see how "The Gift" isn't a song. It's somebody's voice over a bed of music.

it's a spoken word piece with some random pickin' accompanying it

Not really a composed song...

some random pickin'

I do believe they call that "improvisation" in the music biz.

I guess we'll just have to disagree.

Well, it's definitely missing a few items - 1973 "Swan" mixes of Lady Godiva's Operation and Sister Ray, 1984 VU-era mixes of Stephanie Says, Temptation Inside Your Heart, Hey Mr. Rain and Guess I'm Falling In Love, a different live version of Guess I'm Falling In Love at the Gymnasium (it's been booted from a New York radio broadcast when John Cale had the track played on the air)...
