Just saw this on a westcoast music blog:

The Eagles’ Glenn Frey will release his first solo album since 1992 in May. Titled After Hours, it will be a collection of pop standards, re-recorded by Frey in a “cocktail lounge” style. Apparently, Frey was motivated enough by Rod Stewart’s recent Great American Songbook covers albums to make one of his own, and it will be released on May 8.

Among the songs covered on After Hours are Caroline, No (originally by the Beach Boys), The Look of Love, Route 66, and The Shadow of Your Smile.

Just what the world has been waiting for... Huh

I just interviewed Glenn. The LP is very good -- and the world DOES need people to cover "Caroline, No." Why shouldn't that become a song that people know and love among all the other "evergreens"? Kudos to Frey for having the balls to not only sing it but release it.

Well, if his version of Caroline No is half as good as his bandmate Timothy B's version, it should be good. Tough to beat Tim's though.

I'd rather see an 'Eagles' release more than another solo album.

I, I love the colorful clothes she wears, and she's already working on my brain. I only looked in her eyes, but I picked up something I just can't explain. I, I bet I know what she’s like, and I can feel how right she’d be for me. It’s weird how she comes in so strong, and I wonder what she’s picking up from me. I hope it’s good, good, good, good vibrations, yeah!!

Amen to that - along with Jimmy Webb's orchestration

Bruce Johnston arranged a version of "God Only Knows" for Jack Jones.  Very slow and elegiac, with some pretty piano chords.  Someone should compile a set of "Pet Sounds" covers by various artists (or has that already been done?).

Not too bad sounding; Glenn's got the right (vulnerable) tone for it.

Interesting that they "stage" that "Caroline, No" moment to make it look like Glenn just came up with the idea to cover the song right then-and-there. This is same thing that happens in some of Brian's behind-the-scenes videos that people criticize.

Video takes hours to load...  Embarrassed

Got it now. His version sounds good. Don't know if the "let's do caroline, no"-moment is legit, or not... probably not. Seems a bit weird, if you think about it.

Sounds pretty good, Glen's voice doesn't have the youthful sound to it like Brian or Timothy B. Schmidt, but it makes for an interesting contrast with those versions.

Howie is absolutely right though, having a major artist cover "Caroline, No" is a great thing - it's a criminally under-known gem to the general music public.

Too bad ole' Glenn hasn't been doing anything "major" in years...

I've listened to a few tracks("Caroline No" & "The Look of Love") and they're better than expected, though hearing "The Look of Love" not being sung by a lady takes some getting used to.

Don't do it, it's a trick to make you listen to Glenn Frey.

I downloaded the song.  It's not a bad cover; Frey's voice is surprisingly good for it.  It does drag on a little longer than it needed to.
