Jeffrey Foskett and Warmth of the Sun Vocal Parts

Some time a long while ago, I remember listening to a Youtube video or a podcast (or something) where Jeffrey disects the different harmony parts for Warmth of the Sun.  Does anybody else remember this and know where it can be found?  Personally, I thought it was pretty spectacular that he could nail all the parts......yes I do think Jeff is a good singer, should be in the touring band, and yes, at times he is a bit too high in the mix.....but not the point of the thread.

That harmony 'tutorial' was from a BBC Radio 2 documentary, 'Jeff Foskett on "Warmth of the Sun"'
It was in 2008, might be in august that year.

Searching the bbc radio sites might help.

There is also a splendid version of TWOTS on an old 80's cd by Papa Doo Run Run (California Project). Jeff was a member, his vocals are on that version also.

Regarding "Warmth Of The Sun". Without understanding the music to it deep down (chord changes, melody, harmony parts, vocals, and all that) and can really only love the song on the surface, the thing that really made me appreciate it even more was the guy on the "I Just Wasn't Made For These Times" video explaining it on piano. The guy presented a realization of how great the song really is in its intricacies and complex chords and vocal patterns.

Some of us hope not. Jeff doesn't even sound half as good as he did many years ago.  It's also not that impressive that he can parse the vocal parts of the song, I'm sure any competent musician could do that.

Ah, here it comes. I wondered when the forces on guard against Jeff's many evils (which now include his irritating decision to chronologically age and mere competence as a musician ) would appear. Thank goodness!

People say Brian and Mike sound weak or bad all the time and not many people defend them when they get criticized for having declining vocal ability.  Jeff should be no different.

Especially seeing as Brian and Mike are actually in the group The Beach Boys, whereas Jeff is a hired hand to perform a certain task, which, honestly he doesn't do as good a job at as he used to.

Edit: Sadly I've been unable to track down Mr Foskett's demo, which is annoying. It is definitely somewhere as I had it and wouldn't have deleted it, but I moved house last summer and I'm still not entirely sure where everything is.

I say this as I don't want to disappoint anyone with my false promises, but you are welcome to drop me a line here and when I eventually find it I can pass it on.

 The original song with Brian's lead has an emotional quality that is unmatched.  The original song is a beautiful and moving piece of art.  Honestly, when Foskett sings it, all of this lost.  I'd give anything to hear Brian do it a the reunion with the rest of The Beach Boys supporting him vocaly.  Brian will always have that emotion with this song.

I honestly can't understand his need to record his own version exactly like the original and trying as hard as possible to mime Brian (and failing at it)... I know it's basically his job to mime Brian so maybe he did this as practice, but it always boggles my mind when anyone covers a song so exact as he did. It always just seems to illuminate the untouchable/intangible qualities that make the original special.

His voice cracks every time he goes into falsetto. I swear at God. That and the little "flippy" thing he does every other note that is, to the best of my knowledge, not on any of the original vocal parts will transport you to Foskettland, surely a bloated, flippy, cracky hellscape.

Also, he has a song called "Young Emotions". What the hell???

I get it! And I really don't mean to be so harsh! I just don't like the guy's voice and don't want him to be stunt doubling for Brian so obviously. And it's not a new feeling. Some of the clips floating around of Brian shows where it's Jeff singing lead while Brian sits there are depressing. I understand the need for it perhaps but can still have my opinion. And maybe if it was someone other than Jeff. Someone who actually comes anywhere near close to projecting any real emotion, I'd be fine with it.

It's like, I have a lot of respect for Mike for going out on national TV (regardless of it being Dancing With The Stars) and actually singing even when his voice is not at it's greatest!
