Finally got around to scanning a couple of large photos I bought almost 25 years ago in a shop on Hollywood Blvd.

My Solution session:

What's the story behind that first one. That is the most bizarre Beach Boys picture I've ever seen. What have Carl and Brian got on their faces?

I wonder if that's the same green face paint Brian used to try to Sabotage the Reprise deal?

Well, they're recording a "Monster Mash"-type song for Halloween so the picture reflects that. Note that the rubber mask is the same one featured in the 1966 promo film for "I Just Wasn't Made For These Times" (where it was even more out of place!).

They should make posters of the 2nd picture. That picture of Brian is awesome to the point I would buy to make one.

And production aside, I’d so much rather hear a 14 year old David Marks shred some guitar on Chug-a-lug than hear a 51 year old Mike Love sing about bangin some chick in a swimming pool.-rab2591

Any guesses as to when the 2nd picture was taken?  The hair seems 1970-ish, but the half-beard is throwing me off.

Both are 1970 and I think Brian looked his best around then. He just didn't shave that day I guess.

I am still looking for one brilliant (and unsettling) photo of Brian, done by Matthew Rolston, in a Rolling Stone special about rock photography. It is in b&w and you can literally see the demons in his eyes, that trouble(d) him so much.

And for a series of photos in a UK magazine, IIRC mostly in sepia, made by a photographer with a Belgian or French name. Never saw them again. They were distorted (wide angle lens I suppose). And they were great too. The mag may have been Uncut.

Em, Andrew?

Halloween. If I remember correctly that's Billy Hinsche on the far right and maybe (?) Denny behind the Chewbacca mask (although Star Wars wasn't invented yet)?
Oh, and Mike had no idea it's Halloween when he dressed up that morning.  Grin

When you described that picture, the first thing that came to mind was this cover.... (apologies for the bad scanning)

Recall reading that Bri told the snapper he had 30 seconds to take his pic, timed him and departed on the dot.  Grin

I have the above featured My Solution photo along with nice B&W 8x10s of each member of the group, except Dennis. His photo is color and dates from the Two Lane Blacktop era. I also have two B&W concert 8x10s which I have never seen anywhere elase. If anyone is interested in purchasing them, PM me. When I am in Sydney I will dig them out. IIRC they are all in mint condition and were obtained at the same Hollywood shop as mentioned in the OP.

The B&W indiviual pics can be seen all in a row in David Leaf's book in the Sunflower era chapters (sorry dont have it in front of me to tell the eact pages)

regards

Dwight
