What a dumpster fire of autotune, Mike's voice sounds like he is drowning in it and Foskett's shrill falsetto. BW really is miles ahead of this clown.

And production aside, I’d so much rather hear a 14 year old David Marks shred some guitar on Chug-a-lug than hear a 51 year old Mike Love sing about bangin some chick in a swimming pool.-rab2591

Ranks right up there with the his eternally boring, mundane and embarrassing output.  Transcendental Meditation

Well on the plus side it's better than Santa's Going to Kokomo.

Musically maybe, but not vocally. I'll take the original over this one. Processed Mike Love does not sound good to my ears. Your ears may vary. Wink

That could be said about literally every single released BB and BB solo track ever.

I also prefer the original version from 79. Don't care for this one at all.......should have cleaned up Go and Get That Girl, with a great driving beat and Carl vocal!

New backing track = improvement over the original, can't go wrong with Spectoresque

New vocals/autotune = ...why?

I wonder who mixed this. That mistake at 2:54...

I thought I'd heard of "French rock band Phoenix" before...

In 1995, Laurent Brancowitz, Mazzalai's older brother, permanently joined the band on guitar after the end of Darlin', a short-lived band that Brancowitz had formed with Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo (Bangalter and de Homem-Christo later formed Daft Punk

It sure is characteristic of Love to be approached by 'artier' rock musicians to record one of his songs, only for him to go, 'Uh, actually, I can do better.' (He must have heard their cover of Darlin' beforehand.)

By the way, do we know who produced the original late-70s recording? It sounds very MIU, so I figure Al was involved? After a few listens I find that older version quite fabulous! Considering songs like this one and Winter Symphony it's pretty clear they had a decent Christmas album in them at the time. Just leave off Santa's Got an Airplane no matter what!

Recorded at MIU concurrently with the non-seasonal material, so l'd guess production credit would be Jardine/Altbach.
