If I'm reading the Wiki correctly, United Western was two studios -- United (at 6050 Sunset Boulevard) and Western (at 6000 Sunset Boulevard). United is the one that's known as Ocean Way now. Western was sold and became Cello studios and is now known as EastWest. That's where a lot of Pet Sounds was tracked. Interesting that Brian isn't recording there, since it's on the same block.

This is where The Beach Boys recorded all those hits in the early-mid 60's.  Studio 3.  It's now Ocean Way - they've come full circle!

EastWest is a different studio than Ocean Way. They are two separate buildings and owned by separate companies.

Western Recorders was at 6000 Sunset Blvd.  This was where The Beach Boys recorded in the 60's.  I was there in the mid-70's.

I, I love the colorful clothes she wears, and she's already working on my brain. I only looked in her eyes, but I picked up something I just can't explain. I, I bet I know what she’s like, and I can feel how right she’d be for me. It’s weird how she comes in so strong, and I wonder what she’s picking up from me. I hope it’s good, good, good, good vibrations, yeah!!

It's complicated, but my original post is correct. Brian and the boys are not recording in the place where Pet Sounds was tracked.

Both Western (at 6000) and United (at 6050) were sold in the 80s and were -- at the time -- both called Ocean Way studios.

But the guy who owns Ocean Way sold the former Western building at in the 90s. It became Cello studios and was sold again to become EastWest. The Beach Boys, even though Brian recorded Pet Sounds tracks in that building, are not recording at EastWest.

They are instead recording at the single Hollywood studio to retain the Ocean Way name, which is the former United building at 6050.

Ocean Way history: http://www.oceanwayrecording.com/about-history.php

"In early 2000, Allen sold the Western building and those studios have been operated by others for a number of years. "

EastWest history: http://www.eastwest-studios.com/history

"In 1989, the studios were acquired by Allen Sides and renamed Oceanway. In 1999 Rick Adams purchased the studios and renamed it Cello. In January 2006 it was acquired by Doug Rogers of EastWest, the #1 sounds producer in the world. "

"A live tour DVD and a PBS special are also in the works."

May 8, 9 - New York, NY - Beacon Theater

The only 'original' 2 nighter in the announced gigs I believe.

'Beach Boys Live From The Beacon NY' PBS Special/ DVD anyone? Someone call Martin Scorsese.

Filming a new DVD so early in the tour during the Beacon shows?  Dunno about that.  I'd expect they'd wait until later in the tour when they've ironed out all the wrinkles.  Taping a show in Europe or the UK will probably be most likely.

Naaaah. No way.

It'll be a U.S. show. This tour is clearly focused on the U.S. (some serious doubts being expressed now about whether U.K. dates will turn up at all). I'd bet on the Beacon shows, too. Possibly the Greek show, if it's good. Or Red Rocks, if they want to be outdoors.

The money men behind this tour will not allow 'wrinkles'. If the first gigs get poor reviews it will impact on the remainder of the tour. I can safely say the 5 principals have been contracted to put on a well rehearsed show (by a third parties standards) and for an agreed number of gigs, health permitting.

In return they will be well compensated, first class travel and top hotels. This tour is a massive undertaking by all the parties and will be being managed as such.

Wasn't the Stones' "Shine a light" filmed and recorded there ? It would make sense if the BBs film their shows there too, as they often go with what others have done before.

It's also possible though that they film more shows during the tour and we'll get something like "Brian Wison on tour"

a diseased bunch of mo'fos if there ever was one… their beauty is so awesome that listening to them at their best is like being in some vast dream cathedral decorated with a thousand gleaming American pop culture icons.

PRO SHOT BEACH BOYS CONCERTS - LIST

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

Yes and yes.

A live tour DVD reads to me a documentary of the tour with songs played live. Who knows at this stage the meaning?

But a PBS special sounds more like a complete concert to me. Guess we will see.

I'm thinking that a PBS special means an abridged version of the concert DVD, shown during one of their pledge runs, with 10 minute interruptions at which time the announcers would say something like, "If you pledge $50.00, you'll receive a copy of the new Beach Boys CD.  If you pledge $100.00, you'll be able to watch this entire concert on DVD.  And if you pledge $250.00, you'll receive the CD, the DVD, and the new box set.  Call now, and support your public broadcasting network."

Or something like that.
