Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Brian on SNL 1976

The Internet Archive has a literal goldmine of anything you can think of. There is an archive of a huge number of SNL episodes, and I was surprised to find this complete episode today. From November of 1976, and hosted by a young Jodie Foster, and while watching it, at the 12:00 minute mark is Brian doing "Back Home" from 15 Big Ones. While I'm sure most here are familiar with this, it blew me away. Brian sounds great and looks healthy. And the picture quality is such that you can watch full screen. https://archive.org/details/saturday-night-live-s02e09

I don't see a mention of the latest issue of ESQ, as I usually do upon release...so here goes. Featuring a spiffy new sessionography by yours truly...
I got my copy of this a few days ago, and it was a great read. Since you mentioned your sessionography, I want to thank you for all of the details. And, as others have said, it would be great if you put out a complete BB sessions book. It would be the ultimate resource for those of us wanting that type of session info.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: New stereo mix of “I Get Around”

There seems to be some confusion here as to what DES (digitally extracted stereo) is. It has nothing to do with Duophonic or separated frequencies. It is a way to separate, using state of the art software, each element of an original mono recording into seperate tracks. Each instrument, each vocal, background singers, etc. all now have their own tracks. Basically, multi tracks have been created from the mono. These are then remixed by professional audio engineers into true stereo. Some of the tracks on the new Eric CD's over the last two years are jaw dropping. They duplicate the original 45 versions, in perfect sound quality, but now in stereo. I have all of their releases from the last several years, and they are amazing. Go to their website (in the original post) and listen to some or all of the samples. All that said, the "I Get Around" on the new CD is NOT DES, just reconstructed stereo. Here's a track from one of their releases from last year. The Kalin Twins "When" from 1958. Only in mono until this true stereo mix using DES was made last year. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPmQIlhOc4oTo hear the stereo best, listen through good speakers or headphones.

Thanks! The entire interview with Alvin regarding "Cry Baby" is exactly what I was looking for. He names those musicians used on the four rockabilly tracks, plus himself and James Intveld on guitars. I would never have found this out without the link you provided, so thanks again......

Mark, I don't know if you are still here, but if you are I have a non BB's question you may be able to answer. I noticed recently that you engineered the soundtrack recordings for John Waters' 1990 film "Cry Baby". I love the movie, and bought the soundtrack back then, and the music, and the recording quality, to this day, blows me away. But my question is, who were the studio musicians on those recordings? I know that James Intveld and Rachel Sweet did the main vocals, but nowhere have I ever seen credits for the musicians, anywhere. I've been leaning toward the Wrecking Crew since 1990 due to sensational tight sound this group achieved, but it could be an entirely different group (Dave Alvin, etc?). If you recall, or have access to the session sheets, any info would be GREATLY appreciated. Or possibly a link to that info, which I've never been able to find. THANKS!
