RE: Chicago II

Steven Wilson has remixed/remastered the Chicago II album for release on 1/27. He has remixed recent releases for King Crimson and Jethro Tull, among others.

I bought a "promo" copy of the 1977 Christmas album on cassette on eBay a few months ago.

Not the grocery store, but about half an hour into NPR's The Splendid Table, they exited a segment about a vegetarian holiday meal with, you guessed it, "Vegatables." Not sure of the version though: it wasn't BBs/BW.

It could've been Laughing Gravy (Jan & Dean).

Right now, for real... listening to Smile while cooking. Busy doing other stuff too, so running around the house whilst the cauldron bubbles. Run down to the kitchen to check on things, and find I've singed something on the stove. Mrs. O'Leary's Cow comes on.  Smoke alarm goes off. Me waving dishtowels at the alarm. Christmas cards flying off the shelves. TOTAL MAYHEM. Pulse slowly returning to normal now... 

Maybe Brian was right about that song being cursed!

I thought I'd bring this up because it fits the discussion.

In the musical explosion at the end of the song, I've always heard the single lyric "We'll grow closer together" for the part beginning at around 2:33 (using the MIC Stereo mix as reference).

I don't know why, but I've always heard that one lyric over that one section.

I'd much rather have seen the 1977 Christmas Album come out as planned, probably along with the MIU Album. It would have lost *a lot* of money, but I think that by now, it would've found a Love You-esque niche following.

I see the album released with a single of "Christmas Time is Here Again" b/w "Alone on Christmas Day" and a promo single of "Morning Christmas".

I love seeing how many times Surfin' Safari gets released through sketchy labels as compilations.

I knew Al was born in Lima, Ohio, but I didn't know until I read James B. Murphy's book, Becoming the Beach Boys, 1961-1963, that he'd lived in New York State.  He went from part of first grade through part of third grade in Rochester, then completed third and fourth grades in the West Irondequoit School District near Lake Ontario, not far from Rochester.  The Jardines moved from New York to San Francisco in 1952 and then to Hawthorne in 1955.

As for their "California accents," this Wikipedia article, "North American English regional phonology," https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_American_English_regional_phonology, may be helpful.  It's rather long, I admit.

Didn't Al sing the demos for Back Home (1970)? If so, he shouldve sang lead on it for 15 Big Ones! "I'm goin' back this summer to Ohio..."

I managed to score the 3x LP set a few years ago on eBay for less than $50. It's one of my favorite pieces in my collection.

Someone brought up Buddy Holly, and that got me thinking about the Denny Laine (w/ Paul & Linda) Buddy Holly tribute album Holly Days, and how much I like the "Rave On". Now I want to hear Brian and his band do it.

The inner sleeve of the 2009 Capitol Vaults vinyl re-issue is basically this. I was shocked when I saw it.
