It's going to be a Pet Sounds-a-palooza in the coming weeks within my household. I've pre-ordered the Super Deluxe Edition off of Amazon and the Stereo Vinyl (with bonus slipmat!) from UDiscover. Along with that, I snagged the Reprise re-issue off of eBay for $25 earlier! So I'm a happy camper!

Digitally, I put tracks from compilations (official or unofficial) with their respective albums.
Physically, I made my own two-fers, with the tracks I had available at the time.

From UnCut:
The Beach Boys Pet Sounds: 50th Anniversary Edition Capitol
Another generous box chronicling one of pop's greatest achievements
10/10 — Wouldn't it be nice if we could get a definitive edition of The Beach Boys' magnum opus? Pet Sounds still rewards with every listen, retaining the vibrancy of Brian Wilson's intricate arrangements and the bittersweet romanticism of Tony Asher's lyrics. A flop upon its 1966 release, the LP has grown in stature to become a true American rhapsody, which Wilson himself deconstructed on its 30th anniversary. A highly influential '90s CD, The Pet Sounds Sessions, set the template for every subsequent anniversary reissue, collecting the first stereo version as well as instrumentals, vocal tracks and studio puzzle-pieces. Subsequent repackagings simply revisit that idea, turning listeners into armchair producers but failing to replicate the sense of discovery. This new 50th anniversary edition does add a new twist: a handful of live tracks chronicle the band's history and take the studio-bound album onto the stage and, ultimately, out of Wilson's hands, showing how these songs took on a life of their own. EXTRAS 6/10 — Previously available studio outtakes make up the bulk of the set, complemented by 11 new live tracks and a Blu-ray audio disc, but the real draw is the mono version of the album taken from the '72 Brother/Reprise vinyl reissue. STEPHEN DEUSNER
Cheers, John - A *Jaw drops* Whoa! Would that be on a CD or another disc format?

Here's a couple that I've had at the moment...
- Airplane (Live in Seattle 12/13/1977): The horns! When any song has a flourish of brass, I love it even more! - Back Home (Seattle 1977): Nice to have Brian singing a song or two with the band. Despite forgetting a lyric, it a nice, up-tempo change from 15BO. - Heroes and Villains (Live at Nassau; Live at Syracuse; Fillmore East Closing Night) I like the song, especially played live! - Heroes and Villains (Sounds of Summer/Hawthorne, CA stereo mix) I prefer this louder mix over others. - It's About Time (using 2012 Sunflower mix): Specifically the backing vocals of the first "I'm singin' in my heart...". I don't think the channel (left/right) matters, but I first noticed it on the right. - Carl & the Passions (album) is probably one of my top 3-6 favorite albums (Friends, Pet Sounds, Surf's Up, Holland, Love You) - Peggy Sue/Come Go With Me/Pitter Patter/Winds of Change: The alternate mixes are, IMHO, better than the album cuts. - Santa Ana Winds/Looking Down the Coast (Song of the Whale): Very catchy tunes. - Go and Get that Girl: Again, horns! Nice fast tempo, with enough hooks to catch a fish!

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Show us your own Beach Boys album cover designs!

I've been meaning to do this for a while now, so now that I have an account, I might as well do it now! These were created as a part of a Visual Communications class in High School. We were tasked with making album covers of our own design. The other kids were re-creating modern albums, but here I am working with The Beach Boys, Dennis Wilson, Chicago and Pink Floyd! Out of the 42 different variations (from 10 albums) I produced, this once was selected to be in our School Corporation's Art Show. (It didn't place.) Welcome, pdas1996! And these are gorgeous. I'm sorry I didn't see them sooner. Congratulations on the selection for the art show. Wonderful job, pdas1996! The ring wear on the bottom three covers is a nice touch. If I were your teacher, I'd have given you an A on each one. Lots of other great ones in this thread. Thanks. At that time, I had produced 42 variations of 10 albums: - 3 versions of Sunflower (the one posted, 2 of another and 8 of a third) - 2 versions of Surf's Up (the sunset and another of the other) - 7 of Surfin' USA (all leading up to the one posted) - 6 of California Feeling (variations of what's posted) - 1 Wild Honey- 3 Pacific Ocean Blue (two are spelled Blues) - 2 of 20/20 (Never went past the idea stage.) - 1 for Johnny Cash's Out Among the Stars- 2 for Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon- 2 for Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here- 2 for a new imaginary Chicago album "XXXVII/Skylines and Sunsets" After I graduated, I got creative and made (for personal use): single covers for: -- Norman Greenbaum's "Spirit in the Sky" b/w "Milk Cow" -- "God Only Knows" b/w "Wouldn't It Be Nice", based on the Italian single release (my favorite) and replacement labels for: -- "Elenore" b/w "Surfer Dan" (The Turtles) -- "Hitchin' a Ride" b/w "Man Child" (Vanity Fare) -- "Green-Eyed Lady" b/w "West of Tomorrow" (Sugarloaf) -- The Beatles' "Yellow Submarine Songtrack" LP (with song titles) Have a look at 'em: https://www.flickr.com/photos/pdas1996/albums/72157664802215413
