Wangberg produced "Glad", a band including the young Tim B. Schmitt for Terry Melcher's Equinox Label.

No, I didn't subscribe to that one. I never subscribed to Stomp either, though later on I read a few back-issues. I think there was/is a German fanzine too.
"California Saga" which folded a couple of years ago after a run of more than 30 years

"Looking Over My Shoulder" his second album is indeed recommended, not just because of "Dear Brian". "Ring Ring" from his third and last album was a successful 45 in Germany and Holland (1979). After that he sang quite a lot of songs on various Alan Parsons Project albums and produced Runrig, a Scottish band quite popular all over Europe.
Albums:
Home Of The Brave (Polydor 1975) produced by Malcolm Cecil and Robert Margouleff
Looking Over My Shoulder (Polydor 1978) produced by Chris Rainbow
White Trails (EMI 1979) produced by Chris Rainbow
Plus a string of about 8 45s (often with non-lp B-sides or different versions)
You can find them here http://www.45cat.com/artist/chris-rainbow

So, this is a band I've recently fallen under the spell of.

It started about a year ago, when I was working in a record store and came across a band with a name that had been bouncing around in my head, but had no idea why. So, as any well-meaning person with easy access, I decided to investigate.

This was the first album of theirs I bought:

Looking for this image, I just learned that the seagull, shipmast, and crescent moon on the cover spell out X-T-C in a camouflaged fashion. Always something new to learn. Strangely, my copy of that album came in a green paper bag like this:

Full title "Black sea In A Green Paperbag"

I would love to know more about The Beach Boys - Good Time.  Never heard of that one.
A handmade affair - probably one of the first (1978) - 200 made
Side one:
1.We got Love (studio)
2.Child Of Winter
3.Loop de Loop
4. Sound Of Free
5.Lady
6.Monkey's uncle
side two
1.The revolution
2.Number One
3.I do
4.She rides with me
5.Shyin' Away
6.Fallin' in Love
7.Why do fools fall in love (California Music)
8.Yes Sir that's my baby

White Label with just A and B rubberstamped on it and Nr.
Sleeve has xeroxed black and pic of the BB and Brian

Have never seen/heard about that one! Where did it originate, do you know? Any numbers?

As far as I know it was made by some German fans; matrix numbers in the runout grooves have been erased, soundquality is quite poor, probably copied from vinyl sources or cassette tapesta

"Duchesse" is a European cheapo label, their CDs are usually sold for about € 5.00 in supermarkets.

Has anyone ever noticed that towards the end of How Can I Be Down, someone says "keep recording"? This is the first time I've found something like this on my own, I feel special
Zekley produced another version of that song (as Yodar Critch)
THE VISIONS: How Can I Be Down/Threshold Of Love UNI 55031 (1967). I feel that he's singing lead on that version - worth picking up.
Before YELLOW BALLOON cut their album Zekley released two other songs that went onto it as a 45
THE GROUP: Baby Baby It's You/Can't Get Enough Of Your Love WB 5840 I suspect him singing lead on both.
THE FUN AND GAMES album (also a Zekley production) has some great moments, too. Their non-LP 45 We (UNI 55128) is great, too.

43  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: in my room - german version on: November 26, 2014, 02:17:45 PM
Not sure what you meant on your last post, Lee.

He means they could have picked one of the many instrumentals recorded at the time for use as a b-side, had the decided to release it back then. Like "Boogie Woodie" or "The Rocking Surfer".
Correct.  They didn't necessarily need to record two songs in German -- just release an instrumental on the b-side.

Lee
To compete with The Beatles they would have had to.
44  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The Complete Beach Boys Singles and EP Cover Collection on: November 26, 2014, 02:13:46 PM
It was really a fault of the publishers, not of the authors. The remaining copies were partly sold back to Manfred and Christian and Medium Books, a company that specializes in rock books - I think it's still available there.  But it's the pics that count, right? So hats off to Manfred and Christian. A must for collectors!! A labour of love indeed.
45  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: in my room - german version on: November 23, 2014, 03:06:01 AM
Assume In My Room was the only song they cut in German? Brad implied more but surely they would have surfaced by now if Boyd & Linett Invetigations had turned anything up?
So the project must have been scrapped at an early stage - if a German language release was really intended  they would have needed a B-side.
46  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Hilarious Japanese Lyrics on: November 19, 2014, 10:15:38 AM
Most Japanese 45s have the lyrics printed on the back of the inlay - here's an example from the Dance Dance Dance 45 I got today (last verse after the instrumental break):
"Had a weekend lean of gas, well I sure could fly
I played it cool this morning just to be on the sky"
47  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: in my room - german version on: November 16, 2014, 06:44:06 AM
no credit was given for the German translator, who - as already said - put the lyrics into a kind of an 18th century idiom, so that it really sounds strange for a native speaker. Literally retranslated it's something like that:

There is a place (es gibt einen Ort)
There I go (da geh' ich hin)
Whisper joy and grief (flüst're Freud und Leid)
All alone (ganz allein)

Lock and bolt (Schloss und Riegel)
lock out (schließen aus)
fear and worries here (Angst und Sorgen hier)
All alone (ganz allein)

dreaming here (träume hier)
making plans (schmiede Pläne)
without praying for sleep (ohne Schlaf zu fleh'n)
By my crying and my sighing (durch mein Weinen und mein Seufzen)
laughing (I) look back (lachend schau zurück)

It is dark (dunkel ist's)
I am alone, but (ich bin allein, doch)
I am not afraid (fürchte ich mich nicht)
all alone (ganz allein)

"He's a Doll" by The Honeys b/w "The Love of a Boy and a Girl." White label promos are rare, but red label stock copes are almost non-existent.
Well, almost...
