I like all The Doors albums though their career was brief. Ray & Densmore are amazing musicians.

I really like the 1980 Knebworth show with the full band w/ Dennis & Brian & Carl.

Other than C50, I'd say this was probably the best post-1975 tour/show they ever put together.

It would be nearly perfect were it not for the sub-par drums and, though unavoidable, the rather late 80s-sounding synths/keyboards.

I think there's an audience recording from a few days prior (11/21 in PA?) that might be a slightly better performance (Al totally kills it on "You Still Believe In Me"), but obviously the NYC soundboard has much better sound quality (to the point of being dry and having little audience noise at all).

Thanks for sharing, this is most excellent.

The songs that his son sings are pretty good.

I feel like most of the other songs are a commercial for Transcendental Meditation.

Mike matches it on Meant For You off of Friends matches it though his part is brief he's not nasal at all. I was surprised to learn it was Mike.

Show me an at least equal solo by Mike Love than this.

You many know Boys Of Summer...he's more a melody and words guy.
I don't know much about the Eagles, but I think Don Henley writes music as well as lyrics and has had some solo hits, right?

 LOL LOL LOL
The only similarity I can see between the two is the fact that Henley also occasionally acts like an asshole .

I don't see them as too similar beyond that both would gladly embrace getting rich via corporate rock --as would I(sign me up). :-)
Plus Henley likes to play up his Texas roots here and there so I view him more as a transplant.

The Eagles and Geffen mastered corporate rock and though hollow their musicianship his really high.
I had to learn some of the guitar parts and have a lot of respect for all their talents.
I also read the Felder book which was okay.

They sang harmonies well too but with simpler arrangements.

HA! I didn't get to read that post 'till just now.  So did you find our big, hairy, genius??? I'm gonna guess he did something child-like and all was forgiven.

Steve MC "THAT"S WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY TO ME"? After I post something as exciting as Brian GETTING AWAY FROM US... and leave it "HANGING"... and you say "NEW YEARS AT NICK'S"...is that a reference to Nick Venet?...

Cool. Gives me more of a feel of your book. Thanks.
Steve MC,   Your right... I too feel a lot of posters are spinning their wheels here. YES the book is complete... has been since 10-20-15. And I just checked with my new Manager Ron Hamady about posting the Table of Contents and he said... SURE! Ron is a member of the Voting Academy. For clarification purposes, to become a member of the Voting Academy you have to have been an Actor, Director, Writer or Producer etc... of TWO Movies that have been Nominated for an Academy Award. Ron has Produced "Nine" Films in his Illustrious Career so far! The TWO Features that he Produced that were nominated for Academy Awards and earned him the position of a Member of the Voting Academy are "GOD CREATED WOMAN" and "OUT COLD". To continue, as I stated in the above request, to list the Table of Contents of my book entitled "WIPEOUT" (Caught in the Undertow of America's Greatest Band)... by Rushton "Rocky" Pamplin... I initially liked the Hawaii album but after 4 snippets I was over it. I prefer fully formed songs. Good production though.

The angle I preferred exploring was pop jazz harmony.
67  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Al Jardine Appreciation on: January 14, 2016, 11:05:17 AM
I used to have a bootleg of his friends & family concert with Brian's daughters and his sons. The set list was excellent & varied.  I believe Carnie sang Don't Worry Baby which was a nice twist.

His voice was perfect for the cover/recording of Then I Kissed Her(Him).

Rocky,
I feel like we're all spinning our wheels in this thread.
If the book is complete, please post the Table of Contents.
Thanks in advance.
69  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Comparing The Top Artists, Past And Present, By Vocal Range on: January 14, 2016, 05:13:42 AM
I think a big part of the BBs vocal blend was that they didn't have a true baritone (let alone bass) singer though Mike did a good job covering it, their vocal blend is very bright sounding. It gives a very different sound than other vocal groups.  I don't think Dennis was a true baritone but I could be wrong, I always thought of him like a tenor 2 Michael Stipe type of tenor rather than having the Jim Morrison range.

The Beach Boys would have sounded totally different with a bass voice like Ray Walker of The Jordanaires.

Very interesting. Barry White has a wide range and people often only focus on high notes.

But, ya know, they are referencing notes in songs. Many singers choose to stay in their sweet spot, think of Karen Carpenter whereas Axl screamed his way into some crazy high notes which works in hard rock --would not work in other styles.

The idea that Asher didn't want to spend on possible legal fees seems very plausible to me.  I know of similar situations with other bands.

Yes what a dramatic scene. Wish I could have seen that day in court.
One thing I love about Brian is that often has the direct honesty of a child. When asked directly in that trial if Mike wrote lyrics he basically admitted so.
I remember reading that there was a very dramatic moment where Brain was playing keyboard in the courtroom

"The next day proved to be an amazing one. Remember that some of the exhibits were large photo blowups and they hung around the courtroom. The most ominous one was that of Murray.

Brian returned to the stand a few days later and was describing verses and choruses and bridges and Brian's lawyers asked if it would be alright if Brian could demonstrate and the judge agreed. A yamaha portable keyboard was given to Brian on the stand. NOW THIS IS WHAT I WAS WAITING FOR!!! There were more people in the gallery this day(maybe Cool than usual and you could just feel the excitement in the air. Brian had a cold, so he was having a bit of a hard time, but went on to do 409 and I Get Around. Everyone in the place was very excited including the jury. Brian explained what the elements of a song were and that sort of thing. It was just too cool. After this, Brian answered some more questions which turned out to be damaging testimony to his case."

The demonstration at the keyboard was "testimony."

But in the next chapter..."I talked to Mr. Flynn (Atty. Mike Flynn) that day and asked him about...that Brian should go after his own lawyers.  He told me this was going to happen. He had also told me at that time (about 3 months after the trial was ended), that Mike and Brian had written about eight songs together."

That surfermoon link is a good one.  Wink

Bruce has a really high voice. It strikes me every now and then.

Do you think the symptoms of "tardive dyskenisia" have vanished for Brian or do they linger?
