Does anybody know what caused Al and Mike to have a falling out in the 1990's? All I know is that it was bad enough that Mike tried to kick Al out of the group. In fact, Al missed a few shows. The official story was that Al had a "hearing problem". As a understand it, they never got along after that.

I know that this has been beaten to death as it is, but I figured I'd add my 2 cents. On the "Mr. Fulton" line, I'm hearing Brian, especially on the "ton" of the word "Fulton". It has the slight nasal quality of Brian's falsetto. But I also hear Carl for the rest of that line. On a slightly unrelated note, "Steamboat" creeps the hell out of me for some reason. I just listened to it for the first time the other night, in total darkness. I won't do that again!

That black and white picture of Brian and Dennis is really sad. Dennis looks...like he already died. There is a pro shot film of all six members of the group doing the rounds. It's from Seattle, supposedly from around July. Dennis plays for about 95% of the concert. Dennis smiles and waves to the crowd, but you can tell that he's totally gone. The spirit in his eyes isn't there anymore.

It pains me to admit that it wasn't until maybe three years ago that I realised what "U Say Asee" was... Ok, last night I listened to "Funky Pretty". I must have listened to that section about 30 times in a row. I have no fucking idea what that line means. I give up! Somebody PLEASE tell me before my brain explodes.

What do you guys think of this song? Musically, I think it kicks butt. I have a few questions about it. Does anybody know when this was recorded? I have read that it was done sometime between 1972-73. But, I have also read that it was recorded at the Caribou Ranch in 1974. I thought the tapes from the Caribou seesions didn't exist anymore? I have one more question. Who does the falsetto bit? Is it Brian?

Other than "Oh Lord", the thing that interests me about the "cocaine tapes" is the version of "Heroes and Villians". Remember, Brian would always leave the stage whenever the song was played in concert. So, why would he suddenly record a "demo" of it?
My version of "Heroes..." ends abruptly. I would assume that the original tape ended at this point.

I like Scott's intro and don't think of it as a mock English accent-- it's really an imitation of the singing style that was popular in the 20s. The pronunciation is a little bit different, but it's more like early movie actors in the U.S. were taught to speak for the "talkies."
[/quote] Exactly. I hear Al Jolson when I listen to it.

So, as far as I know, this hasn't been answered yet. Is "Goin' Home" in TLOS the Paley sessions tune?
Not sure, is 'Going Home' doing the rounds with a different title, it's not on Paley Sessions bleg? Parts of it were also very similar to "Rollin' up to heaven", minus the filthy lyrics! I kept hearing "Rollin' up to Heaven" throughout the entire piece. In fact, one of the lyrics to part of a song is "Rollin' up to Heaven all day long". It makes me wonder if Brian has actually heard the song before.

I'm oddly facinated with "Oh Lord". On one hand, Brian's voice is REALLY shot, and the demo is long and unfocused. But, Brian did sing the demo with passon, like he really meant it. It's beautiful and haunting, but also sad all in one.

It's been said that Brian and Dennis recorded some demos in a studio sometime in 1981-ish. But, the recordings that are circulating sound more like they were recorded in somebody's house. There is various talking, coughing, and other noises throughout songs. Also, you can barely hear Brian sing. Does anybody know exactly when and where these recordings took place? Does anybody know how these recordings came to be in the hands of the general public? Are there any more recordings from this period that exist, but don't circulate? The version of "Oh Lord" is over seven minutes, but it's still incomplete. It's pretty obviously two separate versions of the song put together. Were the "cocaine tapes" that circulate recorded on the same day?

When I started this thread, I didn't mean to ask "Can he remake something as brilliant as Pet Sounds". I think what I meant was, can Brian be locked in a room with only him and the "Wrecking Crew", and come out with something that isn't a total disgrace?

I know, but what if he was that bad into drugs? Do you think that Carl was more mentally "prepared" to not be suseptible to "mind control" or "brainwashing"? People have comtemplated that Landy would not have been able to help Dennis, just because of Dennis's personality. Well, what about Carl?
