In Runaway, it's nice how Brian basically takes 30 seconds off after the organ solo. Carl takes the harmony (and it sounds suddenly good). Brian Wilson, dancer and handclapper.
Isn't it weird how Brian had that strange little burst of energy, and then instantly ran out of steam right after the solo? Landy's "medication" at their best.

I can think of two. At the CBS Convention in 1977, Mike says something like "And now we're gonna bring out THE MAN! I'm talking 'bout my CUZ!". For some reason, I always thought it sounded pretty cool , the way he yelled out THE MAN! Another really cringe-worthy one is during the intro to SDT(I think?) from Carnage Hall, 1972. He was talking about the audience clapping, and said something like "I mean, if you're not into it, you're not into it. If you can't get behind it, you can't get behind it", in a really goofy voice.

IWhat is needed is a personality who can pull something together and mediate amongst the members and shut down the egos and control the thing. That type of person has not been involved with the Beach Boys for over 40 years and sure as hell wouldn't be welcome now.
Not that Darian Sahanaja would be offered and/or accept the role you described, but, if he was/did, I wonder if Mike would accept him? I think I read somewhere that Darian can pretty much play any instrument known to man. A band with him and Mike and Bruce with Al and Brian would be way to much ego to handle.

One thing I think is pretty common knowledge - he hates the meet & greets.
Question: Is it that Brian doesn't like basically meeting the same old fan every time(*gasp* Brian doesn't love his fans?!?!?), or is it just the general idea of meeting new, unfamiliar people?

I kind of agree with Al on this. I mean, why do a "one off" with bum guitar notes and sour harmony notes, when you can do it RIGHT? I want to see a great show that will celebrate The Beach Boys legacy, and the legacy of Dennis and Carl. I want The Beach Boys to go out on a high note(pardon the pun), the way it sould be, and the way the group deserves. I don't want the last memory of The Beach Boys to be another Long Beach 1981.

Ok, let's talk about the time of Keepin' The Summer Alive, to his death. Was he included in the background harmonies in any of the songs the group did in that time period? I would think that by 1981-1983, his voice would have been TO gruff for the rest of the group to work with.
Jay I think you're trying to get at something that isn't there. Dennis didn't participate in Keepin the Summer Alive because he was out of the band mostly at that time. He's on a couple tracks as a percussionist but in general KTSA is a Dennis-less record. L.A. Light was the last time he was deeply involved with the group making a record...then KTSA he was absent, then he died. So...'81 - '83 doesn't really matter unless you're talking about Live shows...and on those he played drums when he showed up, he didn't sing hardly at all because he couldn't. If he'd been alive for BB's '85 who knows, maybe he could have croaked out a Tom Waits style thing...or at least told somebody that the production sucked. Did Dennis record with them at all after the few songs he did for KTSA? I remember AGD once saying that there is a 1981-ish recording of "Sweetie", with Brian and Al trading off vocals. Was Dennis there for that?

Ok, everybody who's a pretty big Beach Boys fan knows how each members voice was essential in the blend of harmony. Everybody also knows that in the mid 1970's Brian and Dennis's voices deteriorated badly. Brian could force a falsetto out if he tried. But Dennis was probably the worst out of the two in that he didn't have much in the way of "softening" his voice. My question is, was Dennis ever "banned" from singing with the group in the studio? I mean, other than his leads on 15 Big Ones and Love You. I'm mainly thinking of songs the group recorded from 1979-ish, to the point of Dennis's death.

Here is one for MBE to check out. Take a look at the picture at around 2:37, I think. Brian has long hair, looks thin, but has a mustache and a beard. Does anybody know what year it's from? I think he was clean shaven untill 1974. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Hka63YG4z0Looks like 1972 to me. Check out the Badman book on page 307 - looks very similar to me, most definitely from roughly the same time frame. It may be the same photo session. There is a foreign picture sleeve that looks like the same day that shows the five o clock shadow. https://www.yousendit.com/download/Y1RyZGVkNmN6RStGa1E9PQ So no he really didn't have a full beard, I think he just hadn't shaved that day. After all they are in the home studio. That is a cool picture. I never saw it before and it's one of the few that show Brian in transition. Meaning his hair is longer, he's a tad bigger then during the Sunflower era (though not too heavy). It's interesting as it's the last photo session of the five originals before Brian really declined. hey, thanks a bunch for that picture! I've never seen it before. Why is it that the coolest pictures are only issued on the most obscure LP's? The same thing happened with Jimi Hendrix and The Who. Oddly enough, out of everybody in that photo, Al Jardine looks the worst!

I could be wrong, but I don't think Brian was seen with an unshaven face until the Holland era, apart from the 1967 Smile sessions. By the time of the Caribou sessions he had a full mustache and beard.

KGB version:
I am a singer A gospel singer I sing for people I sing for pleasure Only a dreamer Who came from nowhere Sail on, wail on sailor
Over the cities I see the rooftops To soothe my poor throat I pop the cough drops Often frightened Unenlightened Sail on, wail on sailor Sail on, wail on sailor
Just like my mama said. "Ray, there's a way But you gotta get yourself out That ghetto today
You might stumble You could fumble When you're down though Don't feel under"
And the thunder And the lightnin' Lord it's frightnin' When you're coked out
Heartbreak city Ain't so pretty When you're down the Nitty gritty
Sail on, wail on sailor Sail on, wail on sailor Sail on, wail on sailor
And the thunder And the lightnin' Lord it's frightnin' When you're coked out
Heartbreak city Ain't so pretty When you're down the Nitty gritty
Sail on, wail on sailor Sail on, wail on sailor Sail on, wail on sailor
The Ray Kennedy solo version changes the 'cough drops' couplet a little "to soothe my poor soul/I thought a whole lot". He also changed the "wail" to "sail".
I first read those lyrics on this board before I joined as a member. I thought somebody was playing a joke. Those are by far the worst song lyrics I have ever read!
