Rieley, not Reiley. Or any other variation.
I before E except for C unless it has the sound of A (thank you Miss Wilburn from 1962).
Rieley.
Oh, wow, I hadn't realized until now I'd been pronouncing "weird" incorrectly for all of these years...or have I been spelling it incorrectly? mps

Thanks for the recommendation mypetsounds. He had some releases over at CD BABY but they are gone. Looks like his catalog is OOP.
I just checked www.cdnow.com (which is Amazon, but to get straight to the music section you can use this address), it appears nearly all of his releases are available for less than $11.00, used, and not too much more new. 30 second clips not available for listening at cdnow. However, you can listen at www.bn.com (Barnes and Noble).

I cannot believe I didn't catch that this song was written by Tonio K! I really like his "Romeo Unchained" release. However, this synth filled record is not typical of his earlier sound which I seem to recall being described as an acerbic, political Elvis Costello. Can't vouch for that, but I really do like Romeo Unchained, especially the song "Romeo and Jane."

2. Is it just me or was anyone else hoping for some Pet Sounds/Hal Blaine drums in the final mix?
Err... that IS the final mix. Andrew, I realize this is the final mix, which is why I asked, "Is it just me or ***WAS*** anyone else hoping for some Pet Sounds/Hal Blaine drums in the final mix?" It was my realization that this, the final mix, does not have any Pet Sounds/Hal Blaine drums that made me ask the question whether or not anyone else was hoping it would.

Ok, I've heard it now. Pretty good in my opinion, especially considering I was listening to a horrible real player file. I have two thoughts:
1. The slurred Brian voice of the last several years seems to be diminshed, which is a good thing. 2. Is it just me or was anyone else hoping for some Pet Sounds/Hal Blaine drums in the final mix?
And a third thought - I believe someone, someday will have a hit with this song, though I don't think it will be Brian with this version.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Alleged TLOS demos...
|
on: May 01, 2008, 06:20:27 AM

I have seen something floating around the net claiming to be demos for TLOS. The files are in FLAC format, so if I had them in my possession I would have no way to play them at this moment. Has anyone heard of these "demos" and does anyone know what they are?

To the best of my (and scientific) knowledge, 'heaven' does not exist. While I do not necessarily believe Carl, John, Marvin, Dennis, or Keith to be in heaven, this is an asinine statement. Since science is dependent upon obsevation by the senses and experiment, and since heaven, by definition, cannot be observed and therefore cannot be the subject of experiment, what would science have to say about heaven? Perhaps you could argue that certain claims made by certain religions could be proven to be either true or false by use of science. However, even if every observable and confirmable claim made by every religion could be proven to be false, how would this provide any information whatever about something that can neither be observed nor experimented upon? As a point of clarification, it is not my intention to state that belief in heaven need be based solely on "blind faith" without any evidence whatever. For example, one could believe in the existence of heaven because one believes that all observable claims of a particular religion can be proven to be correct and then reasonably conclude from the accuracy of all observable claims that the non-obserable claims are likely to be true. While this method would not provide certainty it would provide far more than blind faith. In fact, many beliefs we each hold dearly are held for just such reasons - that our friends are good people, that our family loves us, that a person's testimony in court is (or is not) reliable. Past, observed performance lends credibility to current and future testimony which cannot be proven with observation. The statement that scientific knowledge states that there is no heaven is preposterous in as much as science, by virtue of what it is, has nothing at all to say about the existence of heaven. Thank you, though, for providing this opportunity to highlight the ingrained presuppositions held by so many yet not supported by the facts.

Recorded in the spring ? First I've heard of that.
As for new material, Scotty told me in London that Brian came up with a new song just before they started rehearsing, and had to be told fairly forcibly that it couldn't be included. I gather there will be two, maybe three new songs. Hopefully one will replace "Mexican Girl". Clunk.
I took Andrew to mean that he came up with a new song just before they started rehearsing - as in the song wasn't finished in time to be included. Just because he came up with a song doesn't mean the song was in any sort of shape to be fleshed out, arranged, composed, sufficiently to be included in a show where the rehearals were just beginning. It sounds as if Brian was giddy about a new song and wanted to include it but time did not permit, regardless of how much he wanted to include it. I don't have a problem with someone keeping Brian grounded as it relates to the amount of actual time there is in a day to complete something. A subsequent poster took this to mean that Brian is being told what to do. Andrew - is either interpretation correct?

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Brian and the Ballet?
|

Was in the hospital for the birth of my new baby Monday/Tuesday. There was copy of the latest USAToday laying around. On the front page (of the Life section, I believe) was a picture of Brian Wilson. It was a quick blurb about him joining a ballet for a performance of God Only Knows. Does anyone know anything about this? How did it come about? Where is it?
