So much Elvis, so little time... While running some errands in the morning I listened to the Sun Sessions CD, then to a bit on the satellite Elvis channel. No music, it was a "town hall" meeting Then back home, my sister stopped by and we listened to some of A Boy From Tupelo, available on Amazon Music. Then watched a couple of Elvis shows on a cable channel, including one on Did Elvis Die in 1977? After a big buildup, the host said, 'Yeah." My Mom's microwave died, so I went out to get a replacement. The Elvis channel was playing deep cuts from his early albums. Then watched Elvis:That's The Way It Is on one of the TV channels. Am taping a show coming on later tonight that's about Elvis' first RCA album. Will settle down, listen to an Elvis gospel album, then go to bed.
PS. I've read Part I of Guralnick's bio of Elvis twice. Has anyone read Part II? If so is it any good?

I'll post more later about this. She's Not There was one of my favorite songs from 1964. It was so different from most of the songs that came out that year. Think I had posted this earlier, but I was listening to the top 40 of the Billboard charts for a particular week that year - a satellite sixties channel has the countdown every week. Listening to it, there were two definite tracks that really stood out, She's Not There, and When I Grow Up to Be a Man. (Then the host said, listen to the flip side, She Knows Me Too Well, which he gushed over.)
Anyway, about Odessey and Oracle, I didn't listen to it for many years because of the song Time of the Season. It's not a bad song, I love the line "What's your name? Who's your daddy?" etc. But thinking that the rest of the album was like that song I didn't bother listening to it until recently. As you can probably surmise I think ToTS is the weakest song on that album.
I'll post my thoughts on OandO in a bit. That album totally blew me away and is one of my very favorites.

While I love early Motown, the later (1967 through 1975 or so) appeals to me more. There's more variety with the songs, topics wise. For hard hitting songs, in my opinion, recordings by Stevie Wonder (Livin for the City, among many others), Edwin Starr (War), Temptations (Papa was a Rolling Stone), Supremes (Love Child), Marvin Gaye (What's Goin On and others) hold up very well even now. Love Motown.

Yes, indeed, don't mess with electrical storms. Lightning can cause some serious problems. Many years ago, a lightning strike at our country place caused one of our light bulbs to explode. Very impressive! Have been dealing with the weather. Yesterday we started having some rain, then some more, more, more, more... 20+ cm worth in 3 hours! Lots of flooding and lots of angry people in the city today. I took a video of our neighborhood late yesterday afternoon. Sounds like I ingested some helium LOL; my speaking voice is usually lower! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Exyy83N9U0

Ha, we have an old ceiling fan at our place. I turn it on, and it goes clunky CLUNKY clunky CLUNKY etc. Find myself starting to sing, "Well East Coast girls are hip..." And at one of the grocery stores around me, the sliding glass door at the entrance makes a sound that's exactly like right before the last verse of Time to Get Alone.
Wishing you all the best, Billy

4 Guess I'm just a sentimental fool LOL BTW, for "graduation songs", my favorite is the song, Graduation Day, sung by Stark Whiteman, which has been played on our local stations every May for as long as I remember. That one brings on the waterworks

Why people don't explain the SFF choice? Don't you like "Penny Lane"? NOLA BB Fan, explain your choice too, what beautiful "Penny Lane" lacks that SFF has? & don't tell me again it's lyrics I don't care big time about who dedicated John the song to, his childhood blah blah. Lyrics is the LEAST important aspect in song - reality check, you know. I DO like Penny Lane. Just like SFF more. As for lyrics, we'll have to disagree on that. Depends on the type of song. For certain types of songs lyrics are vitally important (in my opinion). However the reason I prefer SFF is the music. I like how it builds up with each verse. I really like the outro. And I absolutely love cranberry sauce! If it's any comfort to you, I like a lot more of the "Paul" songs on the White album as opposed to the "John" ones.

Favorite cartoon theme song? While I really like the songs for classics such as the Flintstones and the Jetsons. the best for me is the Jonny Quest theme song from that 60s show. BTW, my favorite character on that show is Bandit the dog.
PS - Just saw closing credits for the Flintstones and Jetsons. Had forgotten how in both, pesky cats caused problems for Fred and George.
