The Electric Prunes "Antique Doll" & "Wind-Up Toys". Imaginative songs musically, very psychedelic, the titles fit - talking evil dolls, toys - & cool sound fx. Some songs that laughably ended up in various Hallucinations/ Nuggets comps don't sound even distantly "psychedelic". TEP do.
Oh, The Electric Prunes! One of my favorite band names. They had a hit record that i couldn't figure out the title. Was it "I had too much to drink last night" or "I had too much to dream last night"? A few years ago I got a car in which the radio screen would indicate the name of the song. However sometimes the title was too long to put in the screen. So when this song came on, the ID said "I had too much to dr". Arghh! I finally looked it up - it's "dream" but it still sounds like "drink" to me. Anyway, whatever the title, I love the song. Thanks for mentioning those other songs. They are interesting and quite different from their one hit.

Yes I wish I could find more local radio charts. The only one I saw recently from the 60s was for towards the end of 1966 showing GV. Shoot we used to get those things all the time back then, tossed them not realizing how valuable they would be for me later.
Anyway, I remember rarely hearing H&V. But I Can Hear Music was very popular here in New Orleans, heard it all the time (and never tired of it!)

I don't have the link handy. Think it was the RS issue with Brian on the cover. The guy who wrote the article related something he witnessed. He was at a restaurant with Brian, Landy and others. Brian apparently did some minor faux pas, and Landy lit into him, bringing him to tears. The author didn't indicate what Brian did but wrote that it surely didn't warrant Landy's overreaction.
So similar to the "hamburger" scene

I also think that while I'd probably say Dano's segment is better than Cusack's, Cusack's is still strong as well. Case in point: The hamburger scene. As Billy mentioned, this scene is really just beyond sad. It may be the emotional low point of the movie. It's a situational sort of thing that I think some people truly understand in terms of how awful it is. And you know what? This scene is surely *FAR LESS* awful than stuff that *actually* went down. ... They actually walked back the truly awful, awful stuff because I think it would have just been too dark and depressing and awful.
I skip over the hamburger scene, too depressing. Gets me so upset, how Landy humiliated Brian in public for no good reason. The restaurant scene in that 1970s Rolling Stone article was similarly depressing.

I love wine. Blackberry, to be exact.
I did too. My drink of choice though used to be vodka straight from the bottle. Funny part is I rarely drank as it was but when I did, it was like water. Just didn’t affect me as much as others. Bad genes I guess. That's kind of why I rarely drink. I usually only drink on holidays or some kind of party. I have a fairly long line of drinkers in my family, and with being as big of a music can as I am, I know a fair amount about addiction and genetic predisposition. Same here. I used to drink a lot while younger, but thankfully came to my senses before becoming a full fledged alcoholic. I rarely drink now. We have a tradition of going to the Smoky Mountains in the Fall and buying a couple bottles of BlackBerry wine at a Gatlinburg winery. I like to drink a glass after Thanksgiving dinner.

Spending the night at hospital with a loved one. She had to have a strong medication yesterday because she freaks out when going into the MRI machine. Unfortunately it can take up to three days for the med to wear off. She's in another world. Earlier she was making hand motions as if she was sewing or perhaps knitting. Kept yelling at Tanner the cat to get off the bed. Called for my sister to get the cat. Couple of problems - there's no cat, and my sister lives in the state of Maryland, not exactly close to New Orleans. Thought maybe someone should go to a toy store and get a stuffed cat, show it to her and say, "Here's the cat. Watch while I take her out of the room." Later she talked about flowers and said "thanks for the tour" . I decided to Keep Calm and listen to the Beach Boys. Nice. About 6 more hours to go, then I can go home and maybe sleep.

Sorry didn't see your post. I'm a bit loopy dealing with a family emergency these past few days (and the situation has gotten worse)
I'm not familiar with "gum boots" as a term for rain boots, at least in this part of the country.
Down here, to be "authentic" one would wear white shrimp boots (called by different names such as "Cajun Reeboks")
At festivals such as our Jazz Fest women wear brightly colored, flowery boots when the grounds turn into a squishy muddy mess after a rainstorm.
My Dad had a pair of Wellingtons which I sometimes use when going out in mucky ground. Can't walk too much in them as they are several sizes too big.

Picking top 5 in jazz? Oh my, quite impossible.
These are at the very top of my favorites for this morning:
West End Blues - Louis Armstrong Ain't no Use - Sarah Vaughan 'Round Midnight - Thelonius Monk Blue Rondo a la Turk - Dave Brubeck Quartet Black Bottom Stomp - Jelly Roll Morton and His Red Hot Peppers

This is all one of my sisters is obsessing about. She's an absolute Elvis freak. Even watched Harum Scarum the other day (it's listed as a movie so bad that it's "good"). At least Billy Barty was in it.
She thinks the "Colonel" was the devil incarnate. I tend to agree with you that his relationship with Elvis was more complex, that Elvis wasn't necessarily a "prisoner" without any say about movies, tours etc.
I'll definitely be watching this.

Always loved those cool British 60s theme songs such as Danger Man and The Prisoner. My favorite is The Avengers theme (Patrick MacNee/Diana Rigg era). No US show could touch that. Love the bongos lol!
Don't laugh but a favorite US theme song from the 60s was for the Jonny Quest cartoon show.

I hate muddy streets. It can be really hard trying to drive through them without getting stuck. And walking in the mud, especially if not wearing the right shoes, is definitely no fun.
I went with my Mom today to a function at an Arboretum. We wanted to be able to enjoy the beautiful native plants in bloom but the paths were so muddy from rains that we had a lot of difficulty getting around. I couldn't push my Mom in the wheelchair, but had to walk backwards pulling it - and I'm feeling it tonight. Fortunately, we were able to eventually get to a wooden ramp leading to a room where we enjoyed some ice cream topped with strawberries.
And Mari, last night I had a dream that I had to go back to school. So there I am, and who else is there in a school uniform - you! Don't know if you look anything like you looked in the dream - long hair, on the petite side lol

Another West Coast Jazz musician was Vince Guaraldi, best known for his work with the Peanuts specials. A favorite of mine is his Cast Your Fate to the Wind, played a lot in the early/mid 60s, and became an Easy Listening hit with the British ensemble Sounds Orchestral in 1965.

Spent part of morning watching Malvina Reynolds bio and reading. Later in the day decided to watch college basketball playoff game. I really hadn't been watching the games but thought I'd like to see the Loyola-Chicago team. Of course, when I turned on the game Loyola was winning but immediately started making mistakes and ended up losing. Sorry I jinxed the team!
Did some food prep this evening. Boiled eggs and potatoes for my Mom's potato salad Sliced up a number of apples, then added flour, sugars, cinnamon and nutmeg for a Dutch Apple pie I'm making. Early tomorrow I'll make topping, flour, sugars, and then cut butter into mixture to make it crumbly, put it on top of Apple mixture, then bake.
