Well, Her Majesty is a pretty nice song, but it doesn't have a lot to say...
Her Majesty
By the way, I'm really glad they decided that it didn't work within the medley and just tacked it onto the end (inadvertently). I know it's easy to say when you're used to it being a certain way, but I really don't think it works between Mean Mr. Mustard and Polythene Pam.
Also, interesting to note that it was a 'secret' song originally. The tracklist ended with, 'The End'. I think they should have kept it that way.

CD, I'd be more inclined to agree with you (and indeed I would) if Mike had written the song in 2017. THAT would be weird! Personally, I'd prefer Mike release new, original material and not previously released Beach Boys songs (we have two versions of Brian's Back already), but I get it...it's Mike's song, it was well-intended, he's fond of it, it's probably one of his best...so he's including it on his solo album (he only has so many songs to choose from). Not that far-fetched. I was reading an old thread and it was mentioned that Brian played piano on one of the sessions (MIU) and attempted to produce another (LA), so I don't think Brian had a problem with the song. He probably liked it (has he ever commented on it?). I realize that circumstances have changed but when I think of (or listen to) the song 'Brian's Back', I'm thinking circa-1976, not 2012. That makes sense, right? That doesn't seem weird to me. And it's not like circumstances weren't troubling then, either. A lot of sh*t went down in the '70s (and ever since)! But, the song was the song.
And now I will go back to not thinking about 'Brian's Back' for a long, long time.

Mike will be on the Elvis Channel (Channel 19) tomorrow, November 2, at 1:30 Central Time. He will also do a guest DJ slot.
I know that the interview segment is up on Mike's facebook, but does anyone know the Elvis songs that Mike selected as the guest DJ? I'd be interested to find out! So, I've been listening to Petty's "Buried Treasure" show...heard Farmer's Daughter, Friends, and Surf's Up tonight.
It's nice to hear his voice.
^since then I've heard Shut Down P.2., Let Him Run Wild, Forever, Long Promised Road, Feel Flows, You Need A Mess Of Help To Stand Alone, Marcella, and Sail On Sailor. Tom name-checked the Carl & the Passions - So Tough album both times and also encouraged record collectors to listen to the b-sides because the BBs 'always had something good' on the b-side. Just, generally, had a lot of very nice things to say about the Beach Boys, including their lesser known earlier material and the late '60s -early '70s period.

Thanks for the refresher! just an aside... Didn't Brian originally agree to go 50/50 with Van on everything way back when they first started collaborating in '66? I might be misremembering, but I seem to recall Brian was particularly generous and tried to be very fair with everything in terms of his and Van's collabs.
If true, Mike must have loved that

That's interesting about WIBN...I'll have to listen for that! Aside from the songs I heard on Buried Treasure last night (Farmer's Daughter, Friends, Surf's Up), I was really surprised to hear 'The Beach Boys Medley' yesterday! I heard it on the online channel, Oldies Party. I know it was a hit in '81, but I wasn't expecting to hear it.
Edit: I also heard the 'Long Version' of the Medley. I hadn't heard that before. Now I gotta track down the ballad version.

The BB certainly have enough to do a Sirius channel. Even if it was a temporary run like they do with other artists but they continue to miss the boat big time regarding these types of marketing opportunities as they do with electronic downloads with live material.
I think a BB Sirius channel would be great. There's a ton of material with BB, solo BB, artists that influenced the BB and vice versa. I'd love to hear Brian (and Mike, Al, and Bruce) DJ a show like Tom Petty did. They could play BBs studio and live recordings, solo material, unreleased material, and any artist who influenced or inspired them. It would be really interesting/fun to hear the selections they make and whatever remarks or stories they tell about them.

I think people who listen to music attentively enough to care about mono vs stereo mixes represent a small set of listeners. Edit: Oh, and looking forward to this... I thought there was a stereo release of Wild Honey already as well. This is not so much a complaint. I really like this release. Just seemed odd that She’s Going Bald was the only song from Smiley not touched as far as I can tell.
stay tuned

... I heard the dearly departed Tom Petty play "I'm Waiting For The Day" on his "Buried Treasure" show last year. Wow! I didn't know he ever performed that song (or I've completely forgotten)! Thanks for the heads up. Sorry, should have clarified - he SPUN the BBs version. He plays (or played...sadly...) DJ on his show, spinning his favorite records. Oh, that's right. It's all coming back to me now. Still, very cool.

I quite like Brian's arrangement of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen." But if they actually did the full BB Xmas album (a lot of ifs going on here of course), that would probably suffice for XMas content in the show.
Yeah, that's why I settled for "a few", at most. But if it's billed as a "Holiday Show" they could get away with mixing a song or two into the non-Christmas album set (or the Christmas album set, for that matter). I'd be glad to hear just about any of those songs, including the bonus track, On Christmas Day. I'd miss Taylor's vocals in the blend on that material, though. One song I wouldn't be as excited about is Deck The Halls...I wonder if they'd feel somewhat obligated to perform that one since it was released as a single and was a top 10 AC hit. I suppose not. Who knows? Now, the big question is, would Al replicate his weird voice as heard on the original '77 version of "Bells of Christmas." Or maybe a Child-of-Winter-Brian sighting? He could incorporate it into a song of his choosing For this upcoming Christmas season?? That would be really cool, but I was hoping for a Nov-Dec 2018 Xmas Tour.
Why wait? But, yeah, I'd be glad whenever it happened. If it happens.

Brian's agent is shopping a short "Holiday Tour" right now. It would be Brian and Al (and The Band) performing The Beach Boys Christmas album and other BB/Brian tunes. They are looking for venues that did not book Pet Sounds. Tour would only be about 4 weeks long around Thanksgiving thru Christmas.
That would be great! I'd love to attend! Hopefully, they'd include a few songs from Brian's Christmas album, as well.

Carl: ... I have heard tapes from Brian's next LP. It's fantastic!
Woah, thanks for reminding me of this remark! Cool. And a little surprising. In regard to Landy co-writes, another factor to consider is...just because a line sounds like Landy doesn't mean Brian didn't write it. I'm not disputing whether or not Landy-penned lyrics made it on record, but just emphasizing how hard it is to determine which lines were actually written by Landy. I think in some cases, Brian may have just picked up on the lingo (I believe there are interviews with Brian to back this up). I mean, a fan might not care to differentiate between Landy-penned lyrics and Landy-inspired lyrics, but I still wonder about it.
