BE, of course he knows how. He received sole writing credit for stuff like Everyone's In Love With You, Brian's Back, Unleash The Love, etc...
You think Mike wrote those songs entirely on his own? On which instrument do you think he composed them on? I'm honestly asking. If I'm wrong, so be it. I just always assumed that people like Ron Altbach (and/or whoever else was in his orbit at the time) wrote most of the music for Mike's songs. I figured, he'd have an idea for a song, have some lyrics, but he'd have to enlist someone to actually write the music.

Magnum PI
Any thoughts on the original theme song? It lasted for about 9 or 10 episodes. I’d forgotten about the original theme! I re-watched the first couple of seasons of Magnum a few years ago and was surprised to hear the original theme as I didn’t remember it from the first time around. To answer your question, I think it’s a fine piece of music on its own and actually quite interesting, but as theme music to the opening credits of a show it just doesn’t compare to the later theme. The second, more long-running theme and opening credits just worked so well together and created a real sense of excitement. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts, I guess is what I’m trying to say. What do you think? I agree with you. I also get a '70s vibe from the original theme which is disjointing for obvious reasons.

There are so many toxic concepts about what it means to be a "man". Men are sadly often derided and put down for not being "man enough". The gender role of the man is oppressive towards men as it prevents men from being allowed to show emotions and for being themselves. This kind of toxic masculinity is also extremely oppressive towards women, but that's a separate discussion. I think Brian's music and Asher's lyrics (and that Brian was comfortable singing these lyrics at a time like 1966) show great musical and emotional maturity from both of them.
Reminds me of a line from "Wouldn't It Be Nice (To Live Again)". Too bad it wasn't released for 40-something years! - Tell me, whoever said a man can't cry? I know I can cry.

From Facebook. Seems all the summer dates are off: "Brian, Melinda and the Wilson family would like to thank all of you for your wonderful notes and good wishes. Brian looks forward to feeling better and seeing you again this Fall. Love & Mercy."
Might they just be referring to rescheduled dates for fans who had tickets to June shows?

Carl Wilson - 7/10
This is my favorite of Carl's solo efforts. It's just a really pleasant, enjoyable album. I dig the stripped-back production and the resulting clarity. I like the drums high in the mix. The fact that this debut isn't the ambitious artistic statement that some fans may have hoped for doesn't bother me one bit. By comparison, Youngblood probably has stronger material and more impressive vocals from Carl, but the production is too busy for my taste. Too guitar-driven and dated. It's certainly more ambitious-sounding, but sometimes less is more.
I only have a few (minor) problems with Carl Wilson. 1) I think "What You Gonna Do About Me?" and "The Right Lane" both drag on too long. 2) I could have done without the nearly 2 minute saxophone solo in "Seems So Long Ago". Though, there are worse ways to end an album, sequence-wise (see Youngblood). 3) I'm not a fan of "The Grammy". Particularly, lyrically. Anyway, here's how I'd rank the tracks...
1. Heaven 2. Hurry Love
3. Hold Me 4. What You Gonna Do About Me? 5. The Right Lane 6. Seems So Long Ago 7. Bright Lights
8. The Grammy

I love all things related to History. I've been listening to podcasts of University professors giving lectures to students on American History. We're coming up to the 170th anniversary of a significant event I confess to not knowing anything about until a couple of days ago. On 10 May, 1849 the "Astor Place Riot" took place in New York City. During the 1840s there was a movement to try to get Americans to be more "sophisticated." to make a very complicated story short, Shakespeare was to be performed at two venues in New York City, one starring an American actor and the other, an English actor . The fans for the American showed their displeasure by going to Astor Place and protesting . It got so bad that law enforcement was called . When things really started getting out of hand the police fired into the crowd, killing at least 22 civilians! Over Shakespeare!
Thanks for sharing, NBBF. I hadn't been aware of this either.

Today is Victory Day (9th May a.m. here). The day when victory took place in WWII against fascists. There'll be parade today in each city square & traditionally annually they'll feed people for free in the streets with "soldier cereal" - buckwheat with stewed meat (canned meat). I got sms about it to inform in which places this year they'll arrange this "field kitchen" (literal translation). Missed it last year but today I'm going to eat it. Besides, buckwheat is favorite cereal, the single food I can eat twice. Aunt & her fam will go to parade holding big picture in the stick - like many people - showing her war veteran grandfather/ my great-grandfather (born in 1905, d. in the 90s). I may join them or individually or with friends Sonya & Daiana but they got their fams to walk with. There'll be of course living veterans too, sitting lined in chairs, listening to concert & many events organized for them.
Enjoy, RRA1. It was a great day.

I recently listened to That Lucky Old Sun while following along with the lyrics as printed in the album booklet. I was surprised to read that, officially, one of the lines of "Southern California" is "I heard the voice of my mind". I've always heard it as, "I heard the voice of my ma". I still hear it that way. After mentioning his brothers earlier in the song, I think it's fitting.
I can't be alone in this. Anyone else?
