51  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike Plays Guitar And Sings 'Glow Crescent Glow', Friday 9-16-16! on: September 18, 2016, 09:43:25 PM
This is one of the songs from the Caribou phase? Did they actually record this tune? Is it part of the tapes lost in the fire?

I'm pretty sure I remember reading that the song was originally recorded during the 15 Big Ones sessions in 1976. Mike then re-recorded the song around 2007 for the unreleased Unleash the Love album.

I know it's said that it was recording either before or during the 15 Big Ones sessions, but I'm skeptical. So much has been leaked out and/or mentioned, but never much bout this or Al's supposed "Gold Rush." I have a feeling this one never reached fruition until Mike's sessions earlier in the 2000s.

The song was origonaly recorded for Mike loves 1978 solo album First Love. This song has been booted.

54  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: 12 Most Underrated Beach Boys Songs - According to Mike Love on: September 17, 2016, 03:54:39 PM
http://web.musicaficionado.com/main.html#!/article/Mike_Love_s_12_Most_Underrated_Beach_Boys_Songs_by_chriswillman?

Unfortunately, Summer of Love did not make the list.

But really? Pisces Brothers? That's not even a Beach Boys recording!

Pisces Brothers needs more of an official release let a lone not even being a beach boys song. If a song is not released besides for what Youtube (Not even a itunes exclusive bonus track)? how can a song even become popular or even be considered underrated! (Besides for the big bad bootleggers that BRI hates so much) You need to give it a release before you can say or find out if it does become "underrated"!

And The Lord's Prayer was never on 'The Beach Boys' Christmas Album'. It was a single only until 20 years later. and the was finally on some rarer compilations! At least this one was released  bu So again it could have been much more popular with proper releases! It is a great song by the boys!

Otherwise nice list!!

Brian is still being controlled to a certain extent!  Undecided

Poor Mike he is always getting the short end of the stick.
57  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Alternative Dennis Wilson Unreleased Solo Album (Hubba Hubba) on: September 15, 2016, 12:18:55 PM
That is an awesome mix! Thanks for sharing that with us! To bad Dennis never recorded River Song in the early 70s aswell! It would have sounded much different as they preformed it live a hand full of times!
58  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Stella By Starlight / How Deep Is The Ocean - In public domain on: September 15, 2016, 06:49:28 AM
I don't know if the original compositions are public domain, though...
Then how do they become in public domain? Are you sure these are 1965 recordings not 1966?!
59  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Songs that are still not officially released but out there on: September 14, 2016, 02:09:58 PM
Correct...the vocal on that version was done in 1999.

IIRC, it was part of the post Imagination sessions; dated from same period as GIOMH and How Can We Still Be Dancing.

That makes a lot of since that it would be from that period! That was when Brian was doing alot of beach boys covers! I could easily tell it wasnt the original vocals!
Thanks

There was a 1976 version of Ruby Baby and the Two on made in California I am talking about versions with earlier vocals.on the MIC you can tell Brians vocals he is much older then the first version. Did not know the other two Christmas songs came out before.

Ruby Baby wasn't on MIC.

I guess I should have been more specific. I was talking about Your Still A Mystery. you can tell that isnt the original recording of the song as he Brian sounds much older in the version released in MIC
61  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike's Stage Dialogue (Particularly in the 60s) on: September 14, 2016, 05:10:14 AM
Many English speakers say "You know". It's a very popular phrase.

Yes but it is way over used by a lot of people and i notice both Brian and Mike use it a lot too! you know.
62  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike's Stage Dialogue (Particularly in the 60s) on: September 13, 2016, 06:51:25 PM
Of course he doesn't have a lisp.  He would put 'it' on though.  'Live in London' captures 'that'.  If memory serves there's also some of 'that' on the first 'In Concert' album as well.  I found it to be tasteless.

I noticed in interviews that Brian and Mike say "You Know" alot. and they did a good job in Love & Mercy having them both say You Know in the movie quite a few times especially for Brian. Have anyone else notice Brian and Mike both say You Know alot?
63  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike's Stage Dialogue (Particularly in the 60s) on: September 13, 2016, 04:17:40 PM
It depends! If i want to listen to the concert I will listen to his dialog! but if i just want to listen to some live music I will skip out on the talking parts

Let's also not forgot the magnum opus:

Sounds like a Foskett falsetto for sure.
Wow, I had never heard this before.  I wish I could un-hear it.  Is anyone from the Beach Boys on that besides Mike?

Yeah, I think it's probably Foskett on the "Cubs" track, and sounds like Adrian Baker on the Hyatt Regency stuff. Don't really hear other BBs on either of those tracks.

No Mike love on Hear Comes The Cubs??? Man  I never heard that track before! Where did it come from?

I love how Mike's Facebook page uses the negative NY Times review ("Summer Fun Soured by Score Settling") and tries to use it to sell the book!

How is that negative what NYT wrote??

So if BRI dont release these lesser known songs You or I can basically do whatever we want with them? Could we even go as far and say we did it so we can become the next Brian Wilson?    LOL

72  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Stella By Starlight / How Deep Is The Ocean - In public domain on: September 03, 2016, 07:09:14 AM
SO will Stella By Starlight and How Deep Is The Ocean be in public domain for all of us to use and profit from if the Beach Boys and BRI don't release it by the end of the year? I would love to get my hands on these and even profit money if BRI dont release these! So what can we do with these songs if BRI don't release them because they will be in public domain.

There are a bunch of takes, instrumental and the full song finished out there!
73  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Songs that are still not officially released but out there on: September 02, 2016, 10:52:26 AM
As for a list of unreleased songs that circulate, I think there have to be some old threads on this topic around here. Admittedly, they aren't always easy to find via search.

Those threads are pretty old now and some stuff been released since those threads. all of the Party! Sessions and unreleased songs are not released that was about 10 songs right there! Although thats not enough! I was to see them all released!

I think it is relevant for a new threadon this topic again!  Grin
