27  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike Love Christmas Song... Exclusive premiere in Rolling Stone... on: December 02, 2016, 08:30:05 PM
Now available on disc as part of some very expensive holiday gift packages on mikelove.com ($150+).

I wonder if there is anymore Mike love songs on that CD other the Alone on Christmas day? It is called a single otherwise it would be a little missleading and should be called a Alone on Christmas Day CD single!
28  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Did Brian ever choose the wrong takes? on: December 02, 2016, 02:34:56 PM
I think he usually picked the take that felt the best to him (well at least in the 60's and some of the 70's), so I think he picked the best takes just by his gut feeling alone and it worked, but as far as chart placement it's hard to know, I think the melodies on a lot of his hits are very memorable so I'm not sure the different takes would matter since the melody is similar,,,I do agree with his choice to NOT release the "wa wa wa wa wa" version of "Help Me Rhonda" but that could have been his gut feeling talking to him..I also agree with the long version of "Meant for you" not being released on Friends because the album version is short and sweet and makes a perfect intro to the album, and the shorter version of "I was made to love her" is a perfect little recording, although the longer version is interesting, as far as "flubs" it seems like he actually liked them, maybe they gave the songs their own charm or uniqueness, I think the single version of Little Girl was just about perfect IMO...

I disagree with Meant For You! I think the song was to short to become of anything at 0:40. I like the longer version. Even the longer version is quite a short sweet song at only 1:49.
29  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Should the Beach Boys play the Trump inauguration? on: November 29, 2016, 09:20:02 PM
Yes they should. it will be highly watched and by far more watched then any other the other inaugurations given all of the circumstances! Any why to get there name out is good!

I don't really understand this sentiment - the need to "get their name out there".  We're talking about the Beach Boys, for goodness' sake.  They're literally one of the most famous bands in the entire world (along with the Beatles and a few other groups).  EVERYONE and their dog knows of the Beach Boys!  Of course, probably 99% of people only know a couple of songs, but that's probably also the case with many other bands (I'd be willing to bet that a lot of people couldn't go beyond Satisfaction if asked to name Rolling Stones songs).

If Mike and Bruce played at the inauguration, they would undoubtedly play the biggest hits - California Girls, etc...  They'd hardly be up there playing Vegetables or any other obscure track.  In other words, if they play the inauguration it's unlikely to win them any new fans because everyone knows those songs already.  I just can't see anyone turning on the TV, watching Mike mime his way through Kokomo and going "wow, I really need to check these "Beach Boys" out!" and running out to buy a copy of Holland.

Their name is already "out there" and playing the Trump inauguration is not going to increase the general public's awareness of the band.  What it might do, as others have pointed out, is tarnish their reputation among existing fans.
Crazy thing a few months ago i was talking to a 24 year old and brought up the song Help Me Rhonda and he never heard of it. I asked what he knew about them and said he only knows they sang about surfing but couldnt name any of their songs. Never heard of Pet Sounds before. Sadly I think that is a majority of people under 30. Only a few like me under 30 knows at least a little something about the Boys and know some of there songs.

This is starting to turn into a sandbox conversation! Lets keep on pace that this is about the beach boys preforming at Donald Trumps inaugurations. Lets not cry if your person lost.

Why? Trump has to have had the least amount of votes of any president elect in recent history. Not sure why his inauguration would be highly watched.

I sure as hell won't be watching.  It will be a shameful day for this country.

Great day for america I will be watching. It has not hurt Ted Nugent with his support for Trump.

Maybe Brian has a bunch recorded thruogh the past 5-10 years and only needs to do a little studio touch up so he can get it released in time for Christmas! you guys never know it is Brian frickin Wilson!!!
41  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / Re: Pet Sounds and Race on: October 10, 2016, 06:56:53 PM
But this is completely hyperbolic. This is the second conversation or article I've seen that discusses the Beach Boys in terms of race (I'm not saying there aren't more but they are nowhere near being "a part of every Beach Boys conversation." )

Here's another article that discusses the BB in terms of race: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/arts/music/beach-boys-icon-brian-wilson-on-faith-forgiveness-and-his-new-memoir/article32296927/

Key passage: "For a lot of listeners, the Beach Boys stand for white-dad rock, which stands for a worldview we’re in the necessary process of dismantling."

The article does not specify exactly which worldview is represented or why that worldview is bad and needs to be dismantled, but the sentiment fits right into the popular narrative (which used to be mostly implied but is more frequently vocalized these days), that white culture itself is inherently racist and antithetical to human progress.

Now, BB = white-dad rock = bad worldview = racist.  Nobody is accusing the band of racism, but the band's music is well on the path toward being regarded as a symbol of racism.

SMH now that is a shame to hear someone write a racist article like that! That is Bigotry and racism at its best. Whats wrong or racist about being a father or listening to BB/Brian Wilson or being "white"?

Has Brian covered "Listen To Me"?
Yes he has! I had it on youtube until my profile got banned!

Rock N Roll did come from Jazz!

I never and still dont look at it this way! Look at Little Richard he started rock & Roll. The Beach Boys even said that in their song "Do You  Remember" "Little Richard made it and Dick Clark brought it to life!" By the Beach Boys did a song together with Little Richard. The Beach Boys did many Chuck Berry songs another great rock N Roller that will never be forgotten I believe he is still rocking his music once a month!!They did ROCK N ROLL MUSIC, Ring Ring Goes The Bell, Johnny B Goode and toke the riffs of Rockin in the USA for Surfin USA!

It's not that it is more geared towards White more so that the Blacks are not as interested in Rock N Roll. When Rock N Roll started they were more into soul and now it became rap.

So can you Historicizing the Blackness of Rap?

Everyone get offended too easily and are trying to find something out of nothing even if it happened 50 plus years ago.

Missing "Angel Come Home" 1976 version, which is out there.

Just added it! Is the 1976 an instrumental version? I cant recall a vocal version out their from 1976
46  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Songs that are still not officially released but out there on: September 23, 2016, 09:40:47 AM
We Got Love was released, yes. It's on iTunes right now, and has a longer fade than the bootleg version. It sounds amazing!
One you could add to the list is "Malibu Sunset", written by Brian and Gary Usher, and featuring Glen Campbell on lead vocals.

Thanks you very much Malibu Sunset is already on the list and I will delete We Got Love. I knew that was released but I just copied and pasted the list and forgot to delete that one!

48  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Stella By Starlight / How Deep Is The Ocean - In public domain on: September 22, 2016, 09:09:39 AM
I don't know if the original compositions are public domain, though...
Then how do they become in public domain? Are you sure these are 1965 recordings not 1966?!

According to AGD they were recorded on October 15, 1965.

http://esquarterly.com/bellagio/gigs65.html

Maybe somehow BRi will still release them! There isnt much to put out at the end of this year they can through those in on some kind of compilation in December for the internet exclusive release! That would be a nice little bonus! Got to show off ALL of Brians and the Beach Boys fine work throughout the years!
