1  Smiley Smile Stuff / The Beach Boys Media / Carly Rae Jepsen Interviews Brian on: July 18, 2016, 01:21:28 PM
I stayed up recording the Pitchfork Radio feed for an interview between Carly Rae Jepsen and Brian that was being touted, excited because I love both artists

Itt turned out to be a 47 second meet and greet where she asked him when he first knew he could write songs and he replies that it was when he wrote Surfer Girl.

This is a very insubstantial interview but it might as well be archived.

2  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Playlist and Chat With Brian Tomorrow On Pitchfork Radio on: June 11, 2016, 05:38:05 AM
Tomorrow from 8PM to 9PM BST Pitchfork Radio will be hosting an interview with Brian Wilson, as well as a playlist curated by the man himself!

Use this link or download the TuneIn app to hear the broadcast: http://tunein.com/radio/Pitchfork-Radio-s237935/

P.S. Brian's gonna be performing at Pitchfork Music Festival in a month so we can hopefully look forward to some professionally shot concert footage!

Nothing too far from other Pet Sounds interviews he's given recently, but the religious talk towards the end is quite interesting.

Classic verbose Brian interview, eh?
I do love it whenever Brian's interviewed for TV, it's like a game, Brian's his usual laconic self and the editors have to try as hard as they can to make it seem more exciting than it is.

Kinda reminds me of that recent Quietus interview where the interviewer took Brian talking about "the voices" as meaning his auditory hallucinations as opposed to the actual vocal harmonies on PS.

Nice wee interview with Brian about Pet Sounds, was on ITV London about a week ago.

Oh jeez, how embarrassing, my Spotify threw in the BWPS version right after the Rio Grande eough mixes and it flowed perfectly. Man, I was hoping this was real because that would have been fascinating, sorry about the mix-up, the Fire elements that are present in Rio Grande are still very unusual though.

Fantastic interview! The Love And Mercy interviews were quite stilted, gave the vibe that Bri was in a poor state but he sounds so energetic and happy here, my face filled with a grin as soon as he burst in all enthusiastic.  Grin

Of all of Brian's compositions, Fire is the one he's had the most interesting relationship with: going from wanting to "scare a whole lot of people" to scaring himself so much he told others he'd burned the tapes. Despite this elements of it have popped up in quite a few Beach Boys songs, as well as in Rio Grande. I recently had a rather terrifying listening experience hearing the compiled rough mixes for Rio Grande for the first time; for some reason Brian got the studio musicians to completely replicate Fire as it was performed in '66, right down to the drumbeats, and hearing it come out of nowhere is really uncomfortable if you don't expect it.

Has Brian ever expounded on why he used Fire elements so often? And especially in Rio Grande, considering he seemed to be scared of the song when rehearsing it for the Smile live shows. I've looked all over the internet and can't seem to find any quotes from Brian on his borderline Shortnin' Bread level of continued fascination with the track. It'd be really interesting to understand his views towards it.

Apologies if this is easy to find and I've just not looked hard enough, but even still, Fire is quite an anomaly in the Wilson catalogue; it's genuinely scary, definitely one of his most impressionistic works. Any hypotheses are welcome, I realise there is a thread for the Smile Sessions version of the track although the discussion there is more about the mixing and quality of that version. I feel that Brian's relationship with the track in all of its forms is something that deserves to be looked at on its own.
9  Smiley Smile Stuff / Welcome to the Smiley Smile board / Re: Ask the Moderators on: May 10, 2016, 01:17:22 PM
Is it allowed to post tickets for sale? I bought some BW tickets for the May 17th show in Birmingham but to my immense displeasure I can no longer go, would I be allowed to advertise the StubHub link to the tickets in a thread? I really need to get rid of these tickets, no one else in my town is a big enough Beach Boys fan.
Thanks for any help.

Does anyone know where a full unedited version of the Lei'd In Hawaii Heroes And Villains is? I'm curious about Brian's raunchy stage banter.
