Nice video, thanks for sharing it with us.

Its too bad the band did not put out more songs like this, definitely unique.

And also ironic that, Mike co-wrote & is on  lead vocals for a song that f***ed with the formula  LOL

2  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Mike Love’s Home "on Sale" for $8.65 Million on: March 04, 2020, 07:37:23 PM

The Beach Boys' Mike Love has put his sprawling Southern California property up for sale. Asking price for the three-story, 17,515 square foot home is $8.65 million.

3  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike Love and his band to perform on Mike Huckabee TV special. on: February 16, 2020, 02:48:04 PM
The Safari Club show was much more of a big deal than this.  Huckabee's show is now on a obscure cable TV station, I dont remember which one.

No one gets pissed off when someone performs on Colbert's version of the Tonight show for example, and we all know where he is politically.

Agreed.  Huckabee is the former governor of a state, and, as far as I know, the guy isn't breaking any laws or promoting cruelty to animals.  He's a C-list player in politics and has an obscure TV show that most of us (including me) have never watched or had any interest in watching, but if Mike Love wants to do his show, it doesn't seem like a big deal.  Let's not hyperventilate every time Mike & Co. associate with someone with different political views than our own.

Huckabee is deeply and openly racist and homophobic. This is not a political position. I don’t understand how people can excuse gross behavior as political views. So yes, I think it’s wrong for The Beach Boys to be associating with him.

Maybe he has some opinions against same sex marriage due to his religious beliefs I'm assuming, but Ive never heard anything about him being openly racist.

5  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: ATTENTION ALL VINYL LP COLLECTORS !! on: February 12, 2020, 03:35:56 PM
That is not good at all. Ive always loved vinyl, years ago I inherited a bunch of albums from my parents they didn't care about anymore, some Beatles records from the Apple Label, original Led Zeppelin albums, etc. ( unfortunately they weren't into the Beach Boys as that was slightly before their formative years)  Ive always thought about getting into collecting more but this sure puts a damper on it.
6  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian Wilson 2020 Live Thread on: January 23, 2020, 04:31:03 AM
Ive seen Brian twice, in 2015 and 2016. And have seen Mike Love's band in 2016. No regrets whatsoever.  When you are pushing into your late 70's you arent going to have a good night every night.  Was happy just to see them when I did, I consider it a gift of sorts

I cringed very minimally when I heard this.  So a win for Mike !
8  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian Wilson - 2019 Tour Thread on: May 07, 2019, 06:59:47 AM

Wow, that's a great concept for a tour ! Definitely a needed change from the PS or greatest hits.

Id go see this no question if they were anywhere near me.  Undecided
9  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian live webcast tonite on: May 07, 2019, 06:13:48 AM

Rename any tour as ‘The Brian Wilson Band’. Brian’s onstage for all or some of the set. He sings a few or as many songs as he can manage on any given night. He wants to play bass? He plays bass. He wants to swap a song? He swaps it. Make the show more flexible for him. I was at the first ‘Final’ PS show in Auckland 2016. The band were feeling their way onstage, saying as such, and I loved it.

It is no longer a Brian Wilson concert. It is The Brian Wilson Band with Brian Wilson and Special Guests. Just go out and say it.

My thoughts exactly and I wouldn't ( nor any of us I believe) would think any less of him. We all know of Brian's struggles. Doesn't change the fact he is a genius. Time catches up with all of us and he has not had an easy life.

Sums up what is wrong with Mike's vision for the band - ie. Never mind the legacy, let's make a few bucks.

On a side note we need a delete button , dont see a way to discard posts.

Wanted to go back and combine my last 2 posts but dont see a way to do it on this board. Or am I just not seeing something?
12  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike working on yet another new album on: March 20, 2019, 07:14:27 AM
Granted I wont buy it or give it much of a listen most likely, but I have to give Mike credit for continuing to put out new music.
13  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike working on yet another new album on: March 20, 2019, 06:55:32 AM
Some anti Mike Love are so horrible here... so sad...

Yes, agreed it is a bit much. Don't get the level of anger directed toward him.

Mike is a bit of a douche and I leave it at that.

14  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: All I Wanna Do - What were The BBs trying to achieve with it? on: December 27, 2018, 05:14:15 AM
Certainly an anomaly which was unfortunate.

That and Cabinessence are in my top 5 for BB songs.
15  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian Wilson - 2018 Tour Thread on: November 22, 2018, 06:07:45 AM
I agree it is time to retire the Pet Sounds Tour. I got to see it in 2016 and I very much enjoyed it. But it is time to tour under a different set list at least to keep Brian interested. PS was one of the greatest albums of all time, but anyone would find it to get a bit stale to sing for 2 years....
16  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: swdstudyvideos.com (suspended) on: November 03, 2018, 03:21:26 PM
I'm generally pretty shocked and offended by the celebrity-worshipping, anti-facts tone of much of this thread. When the claims of a participant contradict things that are established, proven, on the record, it is our responsibility as music historians to ask why. That is all.

So how is the museum doing,  Historian Linusoli?   LOL

17  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: FINALLY ! . . . . . . Part Two (suspended) on: October 08, 2018, 02:08:55 PM
I missed it! Oh man....I saw last week that part 2 was now available & assumed I'd have time to come back and check it out when I had more time to do so. I hope this is a temporary situation.

18  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Beach Boys Channel on Sirius XM on: May 27, 2018, 12:19:57 PM
Caught the BB sirius channel for the 1st time last night. Pleasantly surprised by the more rare stuff they played.

But yeah, didn't hear any  Smile material.  For me, anything from Pet Sounds to Holland is the most creative for the band and my preference. I can appreciate Love You and some of the Surf/Car songs but not my favorites.

Hope to hear more soon. ( My wife has satellite radio in her vehicle only so I'm limited  Undecided )
19  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: What did the beach boys do better than the beatles? on: December 04, 2017, 06:34:22 PM
Beach Boys had/ have a longer career.  Granted the BB put out a few dreadful albums, but maybe the Beatles would have as well if they stayed together another 10-15 years.

Beach Boys were a better longevity as a touring band. Beatles hung it up in 1966 as a live performing act.

And of course they didn't have Brian.

20  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian Wilson - 2018 Tour Thread on: November 15, 2017, 02:31:13 PM
I am sure the album performed with an orchestra behind it will be amazing.
21  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: \ on: September 19, 2017, 06:46:03 PM
Admittedly am not a fan of the production style of Joe Thomas.  But this seems less produced than NPP which is a good sign.

Definitely hear a pre Pet Sounds influence here.
22  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike and Bruce, Brian, Al and Blondie, Take a bow.... on: July 25, 2017, 10:12:45 PM
Keep in mind Brian Wilson suddenly quit touring around the same age after a mental breakdown.  I can't imagine the situation for Justin Bieber is significantly different.

I don't see the Beiber emerging from this and writing something on the level of a modern day Pet Sounds. Cheesy

Of the three,  Sugar Ray has aged the worst.
24  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: My First BB Concert/Your First BB Concert on: July 21, 2017, 05:38:13 PM
February 2016. Not bad, but too much emphasis on the nostalgia.  At least there was Stamos.

Brian was a much better show.
25  Smiley Smile Stuff / The Beach Boys Media / Re: new Pet Sounds ZOO \ on: July 20, 2017, 06:16:10 PM
It is a great concept.  But I think it is too stealthy, I wouldn't associate it with Pet Sounds  if I didn't see it on this board.
