If you listen closely, the "new" sax solo on Soul Searchin' barely covers up the original organ solo.
I like how the album incorporated some "organic" instruments that hadn't been heard in a while, such as the bass harmonica on The Waltz.
I think the title track is the best one on the album.
I agree with those who have said that the unreleased Make a Wish is superior.
When it first came out, I remember giving it a B-/C+ grade. Over the years, I have downgraded it to a C-

If you define spiritual by who meditated the most to make himself feel better, then it's Mike. If you define it as a way of being and living your life with love towards everyone, while always keeping in mind the big picture of life and the afterlife, then I would say Carl. His son said when he got his cancer diagnosis his first words were "I'm not afraid to die." Seems a likely response from a 'spiritual' person.
Agree. There are so many ways to define the term. My criteria is simply based upon the vibes I got from Carl in his interviews and demeanor. He appeared to be a gentle man with a gentle and sincere heart. Brian does as well, but my vote tips slightly to Carl. I never met him or knew him, but there was a sweetness about him that I can't describe in words. I think his "spirituality", if you will, shone through.

I was waiting to see what Rolling Stone might do in memory of Fats, but unlike Chuck Berry, he didn't get the cover. I didn't even recognize the woman on the cover. Tom Petty's death got a lot more attention, but I guess that happens when you die young. Fats lived a long, full life, but hadn't been active musically in a long time. To the younger generations, he's either someone they're not familiar with, or someone they heard their parents or (gasp!) grandparents talk about.
Sad, but true. Yet, Fats Domino belongs on the “Mount Rushmore” of Rock and Roll and is one of the reasons a magazine like Rolling Stone even exists.

Yeah I think he was either recording/practicing a piano part for what they were tracking, but then he goes into a quick divulgence, plunking the intro chords to Heroes and Villains (can you blame him?? That song is quintessential BW piano pounding)... to me it's the bass notes that confirm it's H&V. It's not the clearest, but it's there.
It's a step down from the original (just checked with my piano haha), og is Dflat and in this clip he starts at Bmaj. But it's got the same exact rhythm, bass melody, and progression as H&V. Just an interesting moment that caught my attention. I'd love to see BW just sit and play a piano when he thinks no one is watching/listening just to hear whatever comes to him in the moment.

When She Loved Me from Toy Story 2 gets me every time! Great choice!
Keeping with the theme of animated movie songs, I'll add that "Baby Mine" from Dumbo is quite the tearjerker for me as well.
Oh, and "Someday Never Comes" by CCR is just so freaking sad...

My parents saw him live at Tipitina’s in 2007 when he played his first concert after Katrina, which also happened to be his last concert ever. If you Google “Fat’s Domino - Walkin’ Back to New Orleans” you will see this last concert. It still amazes me that at age 79, his voice still sounded exactly as it did on the original records.
