Time to Get Alone - Carl's lead vocal is very low to my ears.

Anyway, The Last Song doesn't do anything for me. The first time I heard I was like okay, that just slid by, but maybe it grows on me. It hasn't, so far.

There was too much hype for it, imo.  I like Summer's Gone much more.

I liked The Last Song a lot the first couple times I heard it.  But, it's one track that appeals to me a little less with each listen.  I agree that there was a lot of hype to live up to.

To me, it's not the closer that Southern California or Summer's Gone are, but it sounds like it's trying to be.

Concur.  Southern California is such a great album closer - so emotional and heartfelt.  Summer's Gone gives me chills.  Personally, the "La-La-Las" on Last Song are irritating.

Whoever provides the best caption for this one wins a twofer of First Love / Country Love  Grin.

Personally, my theory is that Brian's just reached an important stage in the planning of his upcoming Rock n' Roll album  Smokin.

Aw, sh*t, not the blankety-blank Kiss Cam again!

306  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Is Brian Wilson actually left-handed? on: August 06, 2015, 09:35:22 AM
I searched this topic because I was reading some comments on Facebook about a picture of Brian in 1957, and one of the commenters stated that he was friends with Brian back in 1957-1958, adding that Brian was a great left-handed quarterback and left-handed pitcher.  Made me seek out this topic on the Board.

I am mixed-handed myself.  I do most things left-handed, but play guitar, cut with scissors, and throw a Frisbee right-handed.  The Frisbee thing is weird because I throw a ball left-handed.  The scissors and guitar were done out of necessity of what was available to me at the time I learned those tasks.

Many left-handers wear a watch on their right hand, including myself.  Brian wears his on his left hand.

Melinda: Oh God, Brian, not again... (turns head)

Guy on left: (thinking to himself) Not bad...not bad at all.

Perhaps the Administrators can orchestrate a Smiley Smile Board "Mike Love Q&A" similar to what was done with Brian earlier this year.  This will give us the opportunity to ask him more interesting questions rather that the same old retreads in these interviews.

For years I could have sworn that:

"She makes me come alive, and makes me wanna drive..."

was

"She makes me come alive, and makes me wanna try..."

I found myself shaking my head again and again at Usher's incredible naivety when dealing with Landy. Also, I feel he was, at this juncture, a better friend than a musical collaborator.

That was my impression as well.  Why did he continue to meet with Landy even after a year of dealing with him and all of the drama, non-payment for services rendered, arguments, manipulation, broken promises, etc?   Usher said himself that he must have been a glutton for punishment - I agree.

Ultimately Usher was a loyal friend to Brian and I believe he sincerely wanted to help his friend create and succeed, but he could only take it so far.  He was a little naïve fish in a big pool of sharks.  I wish he would have been given more credit for being that initial impetus and collaborator that sparked Brian's solo career.

Have just read this book and it is a cracker. The picture painted of Brian isn't exactly positive and the tale about him attending a swanky evening and farting in Marie Osmond's face is both hilarious and disturbing.

I am almost finished reading the updated 2013 edition, and that is by far my favorite part of the book - a funny diversion from an otherwise disturbing and difficult read.

Does anyone have information on the song "Carl and Gina" that Brian wrote for Carl's second wedding?  It is mentioned toward the end of the book.

another 'interesting' eBay find, expires in less that 2 days from now with no takers yet:

lots of late '70s Brian snapshots in several photo albums

Wow - the original  "Delicious" photo as seen in my avatar?  Really cool!  I wonder what the seller's connection to the BB's could be?

One Mike article, 5 pages and counting.  I can't wait to see how many pages the future "Mike's Book is Out" thread in 2016 will generate.
321  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: NY Observer: 'Beyond the Life of Brian: The Myth of the ‘Lesser’ Beach Boys' on: July 21, 2015, 12:23:33 PM
The biggest issue I have with this article is calling 1967-1973 a "Brian-less" period and including albums such as Sunflower in that mix.  Brian is credited as sole writer on one track (This Whole World) and co-writer on 6 other tracks on that album.  Also, Brian is all over Wild Honey.

The article suffers from a lot of hyperbole and it appears that the writer was trying to unnecessarily create an issue and stir the pot.  To their credit, it sounds like Mike and Bruce didn't bite.

Brian doesn't exactly have longetivity on his side, Murry died at 56, Audree at 80. He'll probably leave us around age 70.[/quotes]

Yikes, dude, let's not speculate about that.

9 years after this post, and Brian is thankfully still with us and having a wonderful 2015.  We are very fortunate and blessed that he is continuing to create and share his gifts with us.  So much has happened since 2006!
