Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Best bootlegs to look into

One of my favorite easily downloadable ones is The Beach Boys Love You Deluxe Edition. It does include the actual album too, but the real valuable stuff are the bonus tracks on disc 1 and the alternate mixes, demos, Adult/Child, etc. on the other discs. A real treat for someone who's into the Love You period like I am.
Are you talking about the one off of my blog by any chance?

lol @ HeyJude, your post just hit a bunch of points I just made in my little review!
Like a lot of other people on this forum, I had pretty low expectations for this album. Listening all the way through last night, however, I was certainly taken back by a few tracks actually. Auto-tune aside, disc one is certainly an improvement over the earlier 2007 Make Love Not War bootleg. If I had to rank the tracks, it'd go something like:
13. Only One Earth (WAY too preachy for me) 12. Getcha Back (Unnecessary) 11. Unleash the Love 10. Make Love Not War 9. All the Love in Paris 8. Pisces Brothers 7. Crescent Moon 6. Too Cruel ("Too cruel for these lonelEEEEEEY nights") 5. I Don't Want to Know 4. Cool Head, Warm Heart 3. Daybreak Over the Ocean 2. 10,000 Years Ago (This has always been a personal favorite of mine, though shouldn't Dennis have gotten a songwriting credit as well?) 1. Ram Raj (Mike's composition of the past 30 years or so)
Ranking the second disc would go something like: 8. Do it Again 7. California Girls 6. Help Me Rhonda, I Get Around 5. Kiss Me Baby, Wouldn't it Be Nice, Good Vibrations, Fun, Fun, Fun . . . . . . . . . . 4. Brian's Back 3. Darlin' 2. The Warmth of the Sun 1. Wild Honey
So overall, I'd have to give the first disc a solid 6/10. The autotune does NO favors for Mike, and, as discussed previously by other members, it's quite hypocritical for Mike to use it after his criticisms of Brian two years back. However, you can tell Mike certainly put a lot of heart into this new material, however much of a hypocrite he may or may not be. The second disc is another beast altogether. Aside from the top four, there's really nothing good to say at all, so I'll leave it at this: The second disc gets a big ole' 2/10 from me.

I feel confident in this template, but am wondering where to place four other songs in the blank space provided:
1. Good Vibrations 2. — 3. — 4. Do You Like Worms 5. Heroes and Villains 6. The Old Master Painter
7. The Elements 8. I’m In Great Shape 9. Vega-Tables 10. — 11. — 12. Surf’s Up
The four remaining tracks are “Wonderful,” “Child is The Father of The Man,” “Cabin Essence,” and “Wind Chimes.”
Me personally, I'd put "Wind Chimes" after "Good Vibrations", with "Cabin-Essence" following afterwards. As for Side Two, I'd go with Wonderful-Child is Father of the Man-Surf's Up, just to keep in spirit with that "Cycle of Life" theme! I'm sure I've talked about my version of Smile here before, but since I'm writing this post while bored out of my mind in my Listening to Music class, I guess I'll just be posting it again! SIDE A: 1. Our Prayer/Gee 2. Heroes and Villains 3. Do You Like Worms? 4. Wonderful 5. I'm in Great Shape/Barnyard/My Only Sunshine 6. Cabin-Essence SIDE B: 1. Good Vibrations 2. Vega-Tables 3. Wind Chimes 4. Mrs. O'Leary's Cow 5. Child is Father of the Man 6. Surf's Up 7. You're Welcome (Hidden track)

I appreciate Domenic Priore for what he's done to keep the Smile legend alive over the years but the validity of his theories can basically be neatly summed up by him at the end of LLVS attributing the lyric "The children's song, and the message that they play / The song is love, and the children know the way" to 'Brian Wilson & Van Dyke Parks - 1966'. Which...I don't even...what. Where do you start with that
I've also noticed in almost every interview he's given in the past regarding Smile, he always mentions "Cool Cool Water" as being a contender for the album. Which as we all know, certainly wasn't.

I thought there was a stereo release of Wild Honey already as well. This is not so much a complaint. I really like this release. Just seemed odd that She’s Going Bald was the only song from Smiley not touched as far as I can tell.
stay tuned What can it mean?!?! Archival release with Smile sessions and mixes not on the box (Barnyard in stereo with backing vocals, the 3 minute mono mix of Child for example), Smiley sessions and alternate mixes and outtakes (there's a With Me Tonight still unreleased), complete Hawaii live concerts and rehearsals! I'm ready for it Mark and Alan! Get ready for disappointment then Remember how with the Graduation Day 1966 release, there were a few bonus tracks made up of some radio spots and "Row Row Row Your Boat"? I'd expect a similar situation here. Like, for example, the main focus would be the two Hawaii shows, with a couple little bonuses that didn't make it onto Sunshine Tomorrow tacked on there at the end. I'd crap my pants if the Durrie Parks H&V acetate was one of them!

stay tuned What can it mean?!?! Well boys I don't wanna jump the gun and speculate too hard but I'd say this means the copyright extension release is giving us the complete Smiley Smile multitracks, Good Vibrations in true stereo, Surf's Up Part 2, the I Ran vocal session, March 2nd two part Heroes and Villains safety copy, Do A Lot: Toothbrush & Running Water Edition, Dennis' I Just Wasn't Made for These Times vocal, and most importantly Is Jack Rieley Superman? I'm in, but ONLY if this paves the way for the release of the complete Jasper Daily sessions!

He didn't say "I did a sh*t-ton of coke and it f***ed my voice"? Weird. Didn't carl also give some pretty lame excuse for his awful performance at the time?
I don't know for certain, I was just naming a similarity based on what is audibly available and published explanations. And frankly I don't care either way. But I wouldn't trust the people involved too fully. They would obviously have their pride, reputations and business interests in mind to shade their statements.
IIRC, Carl said he took a couple pills for his back before having a couple drinks the day of the show. I'm sure that wasn't all he took. He was apparently hooked on heroin around this time, thank God he was able to clean up his act before it was too late.

versions exist
See, I hate it when people hint that there is unheard Smile stuff lying around, and that they have heard them. Bossaroo. If I find out you bought the Durrie acetates and didn't share them I will find out were you live. And I will unleash the full force of Emporer Palapatine on your sorry arse What I assumed he meant was that there have been some fans who have overdubbed their own instrumental overdubs over the unfinished tracks, since that's what OP is asking about.

Great article.
Brian has warned against psychedelic drug use, understandably. But has he ever said anything bad about weed? Perhaps I can recall vaguely at some point Brian saying that too much hashish screwed him up when combined with all the other stuff he was taking... but it seems like he implied it to be more of a moderation thing; I don't think Brian's ever tried to say that people shouldn't smoke weed at all, am I correct?
Speaking of, I wonder when the last time was that Brian smoked weed. We know Landy gave him access to some occasionally. Has Brian ever occasionally had a toke in the post-Landy era?
Haven't you heard? That stuff went out a long time ago!
