Bruce was asked about the followup to KTSA, and he mentioned he wanted to push for "Da Doo Ron Ron" to appear on the album. The problem with trying to construct an "accurate" version of the proposed album is that the majority of the recordings that were probably in serious consideration have never leaked out. This includes cuts such as "Bucks", "I'm a Man", "I Ran (All the Way Home)", the studio version of "Sweetie", "Candlesticks", "Boys and Girls", and "Children of the Night". Material recorded for the potential album that has been released, officially or not, includes "Be My Baby", "Why Don't They Let Us Fall in Love", "River Deep, Mountain High", and "Stevie".

Also, "Night Bloomin' Jasmine" is from late 1979, not from the Usher sessions. Speaking of the Usher sessions, those took place from 86-87, so they shouldn't be qualifying for an 80-83 collection.

Sounds interesting
You can listen to it in shanghaijoe’s Sweet Mountain alternate album on YouTube, posted above.

BTW, regarding said Sweet Mountain album, “Awake” is credited solely to Floyd Tucker. Who this guy even was is still kinda up in the air, but the song definitely isn’t credited to Brian and David.

Didn’t he also play guitar on “After the Game”?

January 23rd, 1967 - The day Brian tracks Part 2 of “Surf’s Up”, the tapes of which have since been lost/deleted/destroyed.
30  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Missing Surf's Up Tracks on: August 30, 2018, 07:17:56 AM
I would say that a lot of the hype about Brian being involved in recording back in those days was a strategy of Jack Rieley's.  I remember, during the weeks leading up to the release of the Holland album, Rieley was making reference in the rock press about Brian being incredibly active in the recording studio and that he was "all over" this new LP.  I saw the Beach Boys in concert in Buffalo, prior to Holland being released, and they performed Only With You, without saying who wrote it, and I thought, "that sounds like a Dennis song, where's Brian's new stuff?"
I believe this is all of the Brian involvement on Holland:
Sail On, Sailor - Songwriter
California Saga: California - Vocals
Funky Pretty - Songwriter; Drums; Synthesizer
Mt. Vernon and Fairway - Songwriter; Vocals; Piano; Synthesizer; Partial Narration

Did I miss anything?

Mad props to the one person who had “Drip Drop (Teardrops on My Bed)” in their top 10!

Very pleased to see “Surf’s Up” take the #1 spot, that song deserves all the praise and more Cool

Gene Gaddy, Barbara Rovell’s boyfriend (now husband) at the time.

37  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: If there is a 1968 set, when do you guys and gals think we'll find out?? on: August 02, 2018, 01:58:36 PM
Well, today a stereo mix of “Walk On By” was put up on YouTube and linked to from Brian’s official Facebook and Instagram.  https://m.youtube.com/channel/UC8HDM0wcaXWT-a2cOBKmGig

Could be a teaser?

The YouTube video Brian linked to appears to have been uploaded by some random person, and it was uploaded five years ago.

I think/hope some '68 stuff is due to be announced, but I don't think this YouTube link is from any such projects.

Isn’t this seltaeb’s mix? Congrats man, you’re famous!
38  Smiley Smile Stuff / Ask The Honored Guests / Re: The Stephen Desper Thread on: July 27, 2018, 05:47:07 PM
Mr Desper,

If I could bend your ear for a moment. On a facebook page a fan has proudly received an acetate (british) of Dennis Wilson and Rumbo's Falling in Love/Sounds of Free. on said acetate, it refers to "Sounds of Free" as being "Settle Down" ( written on the acetate and then crossed off) Do you remember if Settle Down was a different song from Sounds of Free? or is this just an alternate title?

thanks
finding this interesting
doc smiley
"Settle Down" was the original title of the song as it was recorded on November 13th, 1970, according to AGD's site. Hope this helps.
39  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Beach Boys Channel on Sirius XM on: July 27, 2018, 05:44:40 PM
His daughter, Amber Love. Don't know what it is about her voice, but it kind of feels like nails on a blackboard to me. Not that she sings badly, just sounds like she's really straining on parts, even those that aren't going through auto tune. She just doesn't have a real pleasing voice....IMHO.
She sounds like every female Top 40 artist nowadays. Nothing bad about her voice, it's just very...not unique.
40  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Had SMiLE been released, what would Brian have subsequently done? on: July 19, 2018, 10:51:21 AM
Was this the one where Brian basically followed John Lennon’s path?
You mean the one on the surfermoon website where Brian quits the group after Landlocked and is assassinated instead of John Lennon? That one is quite silly in some spots IMO.
41  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Royal Philharmonic Orchestra Album Discussion Thread on: June 14, 2018, 07:43:12 AM
Something I noticed upon listening to Heroes and Villains: the "la la la" verse followed by "Stand or fall..." It sounds to me like they found the multitrack master for that section. Is this the case? It sounds very different to the mono only version. I have never heard that section in that mix before. Can anyone confirm this?

That’s sourced from the Hawaii rehearsal take found on Sunshine Tomorrow.
42  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Beach Boys Channel on Sirius XM on: May 24, 2018, 11:43:45 AM
Does anyone think that C50 live stuff was declared off limits? (Wasn't sure because of the discussion in the other thread.)

I would doubt it. They're playing stuff from "Stars and Stripes" and "Summer in Paradise", and in at least one case pulled a BB track from some random multi-artist compilation. I'm guessing anything already in the SiriusXM catalog along with any other previously released BB and solo material is all fair game.

They may not lean heavily on live stuff, especially since those albums would mostly duplicate song titles found on studio albums; we don't know yet. I'm going to guess they will air live stuff too.

But, the fact that we're getting stuff like SIP tracks and solo tracks tells me there was no vetting of material as far as excluding anything that is only the core catalog of albums.

The only core catalog stuff that I'm guessing *might* not appear would be stuff where no digital/CD release has ever occurred (e.g. "Looking Back with Love"), or stuff that currently is OOP and not licensed to any streaming services (e.g. some of Al's solo stuff).

They're playing "Honkin' Down the Highway" from Al's solo album, so that rules out streaming limitations!
43  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Beach Boys Channel on Sirius XM on: May 21, 2018, 04:32:48 PM
It used to occasionally happen that when a radio station made its debut or launched a new format, it would play one song repeatedly for an extended time - to get people talking about it. This was often done when the change was intended as a surprise.

In 1981 WAKY AM in Louisville where I lived then decided to switch from Top 40 to oldies. Rather than announce this in advance the station just played Purple People Eater at 6 am one Tuesday morning.

And played it again and again....for the next 24 hours. Nothing but Purple People Eater. That was one way to learn all the words of the song real quick. And it sure got people talking, so that when the song finally stopped and the station played other oldies, people tuned in.

So I’m thinking Sirius XM should do something to get people across the nation talking about the new BBs channel, by playing one track over and over for 24 hours. My choice would be this one - digitally cleaned up of course
https://youtu.be/tnyGklpCc84

I LOVE “My Solution”, but come on, if you’re gonna play a Beach Boys song on the radio on repeat for 24 hours, it HAS to be “Ding Dang”, no other options.
44  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Book About Time Travel and Smile on: May 07, 2018, 10:35:53 AM
I've gotten through the early two chapters about Smile background and his actually traveling back in time to help Smile (supposedly) get out.  Then he wakes up in the present day in a coma, and is now off to Mexico.  Without spoiling too much, can you tell me if it's worth continuing for more cool Brian-Smile tie-ins?  I'm not as excited about reading the rest of the novel for travels to see The Doors and Jimi Hendrix, etc. (although more of the Beatles would be great).
I kinda did the same thing, I read the Smile chapters and kinda skimmed through everything else. If you don't feel like doing that, then skip to the last chapter, there's some more Brian/Smile related stuff scattered throughout.

I kinda wish the author would put the book out again and update some of the inaccuracies regarding the Smile stuff. One of my favorite moments is when Brian is mentioning all of the songs he's working on, he goes on to list "Look", "I Ran", and "I Don't Know". Not only were "Look" and "I Ran" the same song, but "I Don't Know" (which was just a working title), wasn't even his song! Plus, not including "Wonderful" on the "finished" album is pure mutiny.

Boom - that's it! Thank you so much!
No problem!

Be warned though, due to misinformation spread about Smile during the '90s, be on the lookout for lots of little historical inaccuracies!

Actually guys, "Rollin' Up To Heaven" was finished and released as a single in 1974, complete with a classic Brian Wilson double tracked falsetto lead! Am I the only one who knows this?

Man, this mix COOKS! I've always been impressed by your stuff. Thanks for sharing!
48  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Do you have any regrets? on: February 21, 2018, 05:34:53 PM
My biggest regret would have to be deciding not to bring my vinyl copy of Smile to get it signed by Brian and Al when I saw them June 2016. And as luck would have it, now they aren’t doing personal signings anymore. To get my most favorite album ever signed by the man who made it is a chance that comes up once or twice in a lifetime, and I blew it. And why didn’t I want to bring my vinyl? Because I didn’t want to hold it during the concert. That’s it. What a lazy slob I can be sometimes!  Roll Eyes Of course the thought of putting it back in the car before the show never struck my mind. I still mull over this while trying to fall asleep at night.

Your signature makes this a most delicious post.

Exactly why I never really visit this forum nowadays...

OT, surely there’ll be another Beach Boys boxset ala Made in California within the next 15 years or so. That’s the only occurrence I can see this track coming out.
