Yeah, the more I hear it the more I realise how good his voice is sounding. Between this and MAD it really seems like Brian actually CARES about the music. Has anyone heard him try to sing this expressively since Pre-74? I haven't.

Steamboat is also one of their best post-GV songs IMO.

For all of you Mike Love critics out there, what'd ya think of these lyrics?

I'm glad to see Brian would never stoop as low as Mike.... Roll Eyes
While we all know you're a Mike Love groupie, and you have zero respect for Brian Wilson, remember one thing-without his famous cousin, Mike Love would most likely be an assistant LOL manager (at best) in some fast food chain.

Who are you kidding? he would have been beaten up by a bunch of hippes and left for dead by 1968. Razz

I have often mistook Jack Reiley's voice for 76 Brian.  Undecided

Not feeling the production, but he does sound really good.

It reminds me of Make It Big.  Shocked

To quote Mel Brooks: I am hoping for the best, but expecting the worse. I think I liked MAD so much because I follow this philosophy... Of course its also why I like Titanic, ABBA, Love You, etc....  Tongue

Even at 65, Brian Wilson seems naive, pop’s own Charlie Brown

I love the quote. It is sooo true.  LOL

.... And I hate anytime people love (or hate) anything out of the general inertia of things around them. But I love their music, and do think they've got a great argument at the title of best rock/pop band ever. So there you have it...

Thats a great point Luther. If one's opinion of something are judged upon what others opinions are, perhaps one should learn to think for ones self.  Grin

"Quando sera. Un dia sera" means "When will it be? One day it will be"
4813  Smiley Smile Stuff / Smiley Smile Reference Threads / Re: The Definitive Vocal Credits Thread... on: September 01, 2007, 03:44:50 PM
Right. I meant the main vocal is brian throughout (including the "Aint found the right thing..." and the "People I know don't wanna be where I'm at") the group vocal is on the "Un dia sere. Quando sere" part

What were the late 74' recordings you referred to?

My Holy Grail of unreleased stuff...

The November 1974 version of the never-been-bootlegged California Feeling. Shocked

What videos were taken down and why?  Huh
4818  Smiley Smile Stuff / 1980's Beach Boys Albums / Re: Keepin' The Summer Alive on: August 30, 2007, 07:41:45 AM
Technically I don't believe Dennis was really on it. I guess that would really make the last "real" BB album L.A.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Dennis was on KtSA, and if he was, his involvement was minimal.

Wouldn't It Be Nice
Our Prayer/Gee (as an intro to Heroes and Villains)
Little Girl I Once Knew
You Still Believe In Me
California Girls

Very intersting. Lagoon has a plaque which commemorates every act who played their and remember reading the Beach Boys on there. Salt Lake loved the Beach Boys. I can't think of one of my friends parents who made their kids HATE Barbara Ann... I was lucky and had parents that were into Bach and folk music, so I escaped that cruel fate.  LOL

Carl was diagnosed with lung cancer, with secondaries in the brain. When your initial diagnosis has secondaries, that's pretty much it.

Wasn't that pretty much what happened to George Harrison as well?
4822  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Midnight's Another Day on: August 29, 2007, 01:24:39 PM
IMO the Wondermints are the best thing that ever happened to Brian since sandwiches.
4823  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Midnight's Another Day on: August 29, 2007, 09:40:40 AM
I, for one, believe he did just that regardless of whether Darian proposed the initial sequencing or not.

Bravo
4824  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: why are the beach boys excluded from classic rock stations? on: August 29, 2007, 08:17:59 AM
Thats because in most people minds the Beach Boys are filed away under 1950's, Leave It To Beaver, Pre-Kennedy.

Its wrong, but I do think thats how most people think of them. (Thats how I thought about them until I learned better).
4825  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Cool Head Warm Heart on: August 29, 2007, 07:34:07 AM
Carl quit smoking in 1984? So why he got cancer?

Probably because he smoked pretty heaviley for 25 years plus he grew up in a home of smokers (and we all know back in the 40's thru to the 60's, thats all anyone did was smoke and drink). Wink
