4626  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Dennis Lead Vocals On "I Do" on: June 19, 2008, 02:59:20 PM
I was going through some stuff and found a version of "I Do" with Dennis singing lead vocals (the part Mike recorded on the official release). What I was wondering is this: Are the high vocals in the chorus Brian (as in the official release) or is Dennis handling those as well?

The reason I ask is because it doesn't really sound like Brian.

Thanks.  Cool Guy

I am a big Wilco fan but I didn't find it familiar at all.  Huh

Weird. I always thought Pet Sounds had a lot more in common with Burt Bacharach than Syd Barrett.  LOL

I think so. It must be like in the 19th century when all of a sudden JS Bach was getting begining to receive the wide spread attention he deserved. Its kind of cool to witness.  Cool

I would prefer to see a proper DW Anthology before any CW solo albums got the royal treatment.  Evil

Am I the only here who loved Farewell My Friend, but now gets shivers from it. I never noticed the pad of voices. Not sure if thats because the fidelity of the recording is better or I just never noticed, but I love it.

Brian didn't have the "hard rocker" in him. Ever. He may have gone closer to a Pink Floyd asthetic (ie rock oepras and concept albums) but I can't see him as being a psychedelic hard rocker.

Dennis on the other hand had the potential, I believe.
4632  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Will Pacific Ocean Blue chart in Billboard? on: June 18, 2008, 09:39:36 AM
I had to call every record store in the valley yesterday to find POB. Only one had a copy still left. They flew off the shelves here. I think I must have bought the last copy in Salt Lake.
4633  Smiley Smile Stuff / Smiley Smile Reference Threads / Re: The Definitive Vocal Credits Thread... on: May 19, 2008, 01:33:35 PM
The biggest surprise to me was learning that in some songs I thought were Dennis were Mike with a cold. And some which I thought were Al were Brian. And some which I thought were Al were Mike. And some that I thought were Brian were Carl. And some that I thought were Carl were John Philipps...

 LOL

I would love to see Tom Waits. I have been a fan of his since I first saw A Night On Earth. I don't think he ever comes near SLC though.  Cry

I had 4 major influences as a little boy: Mozart, Boy George, KISS, and Debbie Boone.  LOL

This 'Help for LA trip' topic comes up now and again. Any space on the home page admin for a 'Definitive Beach Boys Sites' link?

Thats a GREAT idea. I asked a similiar question about Beach Boys landmarks last year and got lots of help. A sticky thread about sites to see would be a huge +1 for this forum.  3D
4638  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Alleged TLOS demos... on: May 08, 2008, 02:16:10 PM
So is this an accurate summation?

No TLOS will be released and Brian's touring band is being reorganized.

Little Pad on Smiley Smile bears more than a passing resemblance to In Blue Hawaii.

Out of curiosity, where would the "Cool, so cool, coolin' me" line fit in ILTSDD? Do you put the tune in front of Vegetables? Is "Remember to drink enough water...all day long" something you just thought up? Not to be a pain, it's just that DaDa and CCW are fascinating tunes and I want to learn as much as possible about them...

You can sing the complete CCW Chant over "Dada", just a bit faster. The long pause before Part 3 would be for "Waaaater!" with echo effect. "Rememer to drink enough water...all day long" is just my usual nonsense, because the first recorded Dada version was called "All Day" and there's one lyric in SmileySmile that goes "Remember the day, remember the night, all day long".

Exactly what I think as well. Whenever I listen to BWPS I sing the CCW chant while Brian sings "Oh I could use a drop to drink right now." It just fits in so well I can't imagine why they didn't include it (besides the fact that it was recorded in June of 67). I would love to hear if someone was able to splice the two. I would have attempted it for my SMiLE 67 mix but it just seemed liked such a tedious to task to match the pitch and the speed.

Sherrif I will pm you my SMiLE 67 mix of CCW sometime this week.

I raised this question a few weeks ago in another thread as a joke.  LOL

Though I wouldn't "shun" the idea, I think it is highly unlikely.  Smiley
4646  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Weirdest Dream - Do You Like Worms on: March 24, 2008, 10:24:01 AM
I listened to Dennis WIlson all day yesterday and I had a dream last night (all night really) about Charlie Manson trying to kill people in a Burger King and I was trying to stop him - Mission Impossible style.  LOL

"Mr. Love and Mr. Jardine are looking forward to bringing more Beach Boys music around the world as the group approaches its 50th anniversary," DiMare said.

...In what form I wonder?

Maybe the delay on TLOS is because the BB are going to record it.....

 LOL

4650  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Why was Dennis left of Pet Sounds on: March 14, 2008, 09:39:58 AM
Dennis wouldn't've been able to sing lead on I'm in Great Shape, unless it was the way they did it in BWPS, with three different vocalists, which, by the way, is why I hate the BWPS version of I'm in Great Shape.

Brian's lead on You're So Good to Me is probably my least favorite Brian lead, except the "And I love it, love it". But I think he would've sung that part even if Dennis had sung the rest of the words.

"Fresh clean air around my head" could have been Brian

"Morning tumble out of bed" could have been Dennis

"Eggs and grits...etc" could have easily been Al or Mike.
