I suggest: Artist: Pink Turns Blue Song: I Coldly Stare Out Anyone who loves a certain song by U2 owes thanks to Visage! From wikipedia: "In the official U2 autobiography, Bono claims that Adam Clayton was trying to work out how to play the bassline of 'Fade to Grey' and his initial attempt became 'New Year's Day', U2's first Top 10 single."

Amazing show. Brian was funny as hell. Especially during Honeycomb and the intro to Surf's Up, which he called "the one song here I don't really like doing" and then him and Al went back and forth for a while over it. It's a spiritual experience hearing him sing "Surf's Up", so I'm sorry to hear it's not at the top of his list...(meaning, that I wish he got as much joy out of performing it as I get from hearing it!) but I respect Brian's views (of course!) and at least it seems like he doesn't hate singing it; perhaps he just wishes it was replaced with something he's more into. Still, hopefully he can go ahead and change it, because Brian being happy is more important than one fantastic song being removed form the set...and it's just wonderful that he, Al, Blondie, and the band are doing their thing, and so excellently! I'm quite thankful, to say the very, very least!

Jaws is easily my favorite movie of all time. It's one of the most perfect movies ever made. I agree that it's one of the most perfect movies ever made. ("Robocop" is as well - the original, of course!) I would love to see "Jaws" in theaters this month. (Go to Fathomevents.com to see if the re-release is near you - and no, I am not an employee of any movie company!)

I'm a big fan of Roger Water's vocals in the late 70s / early 80s. Not sure what happened between The Pros & Cons of Hitch Hiking and Radio KAOS though. His vocals on KAOS and Amused to Death are pretty rough. Luckily, he sounded better once he starting touring again, but nothing like the Final Cut era (he had to lip synch to Fletcher Memorial Home when I saw him in 2006/2007). Though I still appreciate his vocals on KAOS and AtD a lot, (and I think he definitely still gets emotion across just as well in his words and singing style - which is most important to me) I certainly agree that something changed with his voice after Pros and Cons...and to me, his best vocals were on Pros and Cons and especially on The Final Cut (which has vocals that are more powerful and amazing by far than the record he did before The Final Cut...something about a wall...and all other prior to that, even).

I don't know about this guy. It's weird to me. Especially all of us here being Beach Boys fans. We like singing that is pretty. So it's odd that generally, I seem to notice people here enjoying tom waits, but not rapping. Even the most obnoxious rapper is more melodic and tuneful than that Waits clown. HE's a good writer. But good god, his singing is like poison. It destroys ambition. MAkes you realize how good Randy NEwman is at approximating Fats Domino. God, I hate Tom Waits. I'm sorry I ever heard of him. I'm not picking on anybody, I hope... I like singers who have heart and emotion in their delivery. That's #1. Tom Waits has this. #2 is a good melody. Tom Waits has this. These two things are all I need...I have no preference if the sound is pretty or gritty. I like both styles of singing. But they have to sound sincere. Waits is as warm as anyone else in his delivery when he wants to be... I just like honest music that's not made for money/commercialism, but for the sake of self expression and/or art. (If it makes money, great...but if it feels as if it was made only to be commercial, I usually can't relate to it, as it lacks the honesty that reaches me. Most hit music, of all genres, has sounded much too slick for far too long, with no heart...and yes, I'd include hit rap tracks as well...and I'd add that I find that Tom Waits has a lot more melody than those rap tracks, too.) I do respect your reasoning for not liking him so far...and I know you weren't trying to offend his fans...though perhaps you could have put it more gently, since Tom's not out to bother you - he's just doing his own thing! And that's what it's all about. Tom is different, which is another reason I like him so much. I'd suggest you try his debut album and see if you like his early voice...here's his debut album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lndL46jiEFQI hope it at least lessens your self confessed "hate" of Waits, if nothing else. There is heart and soul in the performances on this album, and yes, beauty in his VOICE! And to paraphrase the post before mine: His voice may be unconventional, but he sure can sing, and his songs are well written, and can be quite moving...
